I was hoping for a selection of 31" tyres although the 255/65R19 would at least have taller sidewalls than my current 275/55R20. However there's quite a selection in 275/5R20 whereas very little in 255/65R19.

I suppose with the advent of LR using 32" on the new Defender that there's reduced incentive for tyre manufacturers to produce 31" tough AT tyres for the D5, L494 & L405 as the Defender will become the new vehicle of choice for those venturing off-road or into remote areas.

Does the 275/55R20 fit in the spare well?

I have both 19" and 20"rims.currently I have roadbased tyres on the 20" and Duratrac's on the 19".At least there is a wider selection now.You do have a wider selection of tyres in Australia. 2012 TDV8 Vogue SE 4.4

275/55R20 don't properly fit in the spare wheel well, with one side's plastic edge trimmed to allow the diameter, blocks in the bottom to prevent the tyre wedging itself in and the floor raised on 50mmx50mm sponge blocks whereas 31" are reported to fit normally.

The mild AT 255/55R19 that I had fitted for several weeks provided a harsher ride than the BFG LT275/55/R20 KO2 so I'm not keen to use 255/55R19, although I often think about fitting the Pirelli AT+ in that size when my current Pirelli AT+ need to be replaced but their LI of only 111 is also a stumbling block.

I did see the Pirelli AT+ at a tyre dealer here in size 255/60R19(Amarok) but did not check the LI. 2012 TDV8 Vogue SE 4.4

I haven't seen the AT+ isn't listed anywhere in the world in 255/60R19 although 255/60R18 and 265/60R18 are both available here.

Pirelli were going to produce the AT+ in 255/60R19 as they had issued a product code for it, along with several other LR and non-LR sizes, as listed by a US tyre outlet. However after a few months all the unreleased sizes disappeared from the tyre outlet's web-site.

Now I know this may cause some raised eyebrows, but if you don't want lead weights nailed on the inside or outside of your rims then get hold of some ceramic airsoft beads and put 150 - 200g in each tyre.

They will dynamically balance the wheel and although I know you are sceptical, they really do work. I have run them in Simex copies Insa Turbo 265/70/16's on a LR90 at motorway speeds with absolutely no vibration at all. Even on the way back from an event when a tyre has lost half a (massive) lug on a sharp rock and the wheel well was caked in mud it was still perfectly balanced.

Just make sure you get the ceramic ones - the bio degradable ones turn to dust!  Bish.
