What a load of crap.
Don't they realise that no matter how big or small the engine, petrol or diesel, they all emit the same level of Co2 when parked up, i.e. zero. Just another way of screwing more money out of the motorists. I wonder when they'll start charging based on vehicle size? 2006 Mercedes CLS 1991 Retro-style Mini But really finding it hard to fight the urge for a S/C... |

Yes you pay every year through the Barnett Formula, but thanks to our generous Mr Salmond throwing money around like confetti the bill will be somewhat bigger this year..................... 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes |

so they force the marjority into diesel cars as it (was) cheaper tax on it based on CO2 (majority of new cars sold are company car diesels)

I see some knee-jerk reactions, but have any of you actually bothered to look at the figures ?
We are talking £15 extra per year than it already is. It's completely insignificant compared to how much any of us spend in one year on keeping a vehicle like a Range Rover on the road.
And the Hydrid argument is pointless. London, like many cities is struggling with EU air quality rules. The fact is that a hybrid may make more polution, but it's not in the centre of a city reducing the air qualility and putting the locals into hospital. Authorities have to improve air quality on a local level or they ARE going to be getting fines through from the EU. And guess where that money comes from? The same place as these parking charges, that's where! |

Here Here..... i think this could all be solved as well as many other problems if we was to pull out of being part of the EU but as im sure theres a lot more complications to that than i can begin to understand that will never happen... "RANGEISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED"

I thought that the intention was to charge more for diesels because of the particulate emissions not the CO2 Emissions - in which case any diesel that complies with Euro4 which came into force last year will have considerably less particulate emissions than older, "dirtier" diesels due to compulsory fitment of the DPF (and what a pain that is if you are a city driver most of the time) 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes |

My understanding a small surcharge on diesels (in general, not Range Rover) for these parking charges because they produce less CO2 that an equivalent petrol vehicle and so usually pay less for parking permits as they base that on CO2 emmissions, despite the fact that parked vehicles produce no CO2 of course. For most models this will mean you now pay about the same if you have a diesel eurobox as your neighbour who has the same eurobox with a petrol engine and used to pay more than you for parking the same size car. Of course, all Range Rovers will come in the top banding, wether petrol or diesel, so in that case you diesel owners who drive a Rangie and live near city centres could soon have to pay an extra charge equivalent to something like half a days depreciation or 10% of a tank of fuel... once a year. Big whoop! |

Maybe we should pressurise the councils who levy this to replant their avenues and streets with lots of lovely lime trees that will clean the air and drip sticky sap onto cars parked in their shade on a sunny day................. 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes |
