This is the air box from the L320 sport isn't it? Well it is certainly the same as my old 62 plate red edition I had.

Ok chaps.

Might have an answer. Both engines are twin turbos.

TDV6 has twin turbos as does the SDV6, however the SDV6 has sequential turbos feeding the whole engine, where as the TDv6 has parallel turbos. One acting on each bank.

As the twin turbo tdv6 has 2 turbos to feed independently it requires 2 air boxes however as the SDv6 has sequential turbos it one after the other on a single inlet tract it only requires one air box.

Thus if you have 2 Airboxes you have a TDV6 and if you have just the one you have an SDV6.

The AJD-V6 basically went

2.7 TDV6 single turbo
3.0 twin parallel turbo
3.0 twin sequential turbo in various states of tune.

That’s my thinking.

If anyone else has a better answer then bring it on.... Whistle There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I'd say you're right....and I'm no mechanic but I'd assume the box I posted a picture of is the double inlets for the sequential air use maybe? all smug in my new plug!

Cheers for all the help on this guys Thumbs Up

My main reason was the the interest in having the twin are boxes I don't care if I have a TDV6 or sdv6 as most l405 v6 Diesels seemed single air intake I was just curious why the early models had the twin intake set up.

I know you say the sdv6 has a single air box I'm not saying your wrong but how come the SDV6 in the sports have twin air boxes? They are SDV6's as ive had one and they definitely have the twin intake set up.

Cheers Thumbs Up

Ross.

There’s nothing unusual about it - it’s a TDV6, the brakes became smaller for 14MY.

Hi Phillip.

I'm sure there isn't as you say but just curious why two air intakes.

Cheers.

Probably because they retained the twin parallel engine for longer, but upped the map for more power before moving to the new setup after they did in the 405.

They just badged the sport and D4 sdv6 even with the older unit. The D4s were badged SDV6 quite early.

Remember in the 405 we had sdv8 so might have caused confusion. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Unless I've missed something in the vast array of forum and online/ motor industry clues eez eez for years, from inception in 2012, the L405 in 3.0 diesel variant was "TDv6" only. The SDV6 variant for the L405 only came a few years later, as previously mentioned.

Anyway, the "TDv6" is certainly a good engine in the "Range" Wink Laughing ... It's a pleasure to drive, smooth, plenty powerful and should be capable of doing all that many mortals need it to do... Thumbs Up

Still don't have a Scooby Doo about your six pot query, unless your build sheet solves it . Ours doesn't have 6 pots.

Looks like the same air box as my 2013 tdv6 210 bhp discovery 4, in fact same as the sdv6 255 bhp 2014 version I had for a while also.
Not sure if this is any use, but probably generic item of the period.

Cheers for the comments on here guys really appreciate it Thumbs Up

You get nothing from landrover dealers they are useless. Shame we couldn't actually get hold of landrover technical or someone from there engine development side.

Anyway way I do see what your saying and fully agree.

So least we know the 2013 v6 Diesels came with the Brembo's it was 2014 on they didn't.

But still can't get my head around this. Sorry Rolling Eyes.......
So the L494 sport had twin air intakes / intercoolers all through its life being a v6 Diesel with the 277bhp and then the update in September 2015 with the 306bhp still retained the same set up.

So from what I can understand then you are saying from and after 2014 they went to the single intake on the L405 but retained the twin intake system on the L494 sport.

Still am very pleased with its performance though its all I need and MPG is what I'm after even though it will be less then my SDV6 Hybrid sport I just wanted the full fat range Mr. Green

Yea this airbox set up was the previous generation of range rover, range rover sport, discovery etc.
Not sure if I've seen one like this in the newer l405 or l494 like this. But who knows what landrover uses in there parts bins Mr. Green

Hi Guys.

Got the dealer to send me a picture of her under the bonnet so we could see the set up better. Not the best picture but better then nothing.
It's not bad under there considering they have not prepared it yet.

Cheers.

Ross.
