c1a55-01 start engine to raise vehicle

I bought a used rover that was on the bump stops. I plugged up the iidtool and it gives me this suspension error c1a55-01. When trying to raise the vehicle the display reads suspension error, "start engine to raise vehicle even though it's running. I found a post here https://www.justanswer.com/australia-car/a...rover.html explaining that it could be a bad ecu or wiring problem, but no other info anywhere on the web. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this fault or am I stuck taking it to the dealer.

Check the battery voltage with the engine running. I assume that you attempted to raise using the raise switch rather than the iidtool and therefore the suspension ecu displayed the message when you pressed the raise switch.

The codes were taken with engine running. Just now, I scanned all the codes. Voltage was 12.0v. Here's the list... It looks like there's some wiring issue. The front bumper concert and headlights are disconnected. The brake lights work though.

That's quite a list of errors! Whistle

I suspect a lot of them are likely to be historical and can be cleared. Some of the "communication" type errors can be down to a flat battery and can also be cleared.

I would clear everything down and let it re-scan. I suspect a lot of them won't reappear. Thumbs Up

I would add that you can't raise the car until the engine is running. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Hi,

If it’s anything from that list of errors it’s the transportation mode. Given the age of the vehicle I would have thought it would have had its transportation mode error removed by now, but then again it is JLR Shocked

Try as Alan said and clear down the errors, if transportation mode is still there take it out of transportation mode using the IIDtool and hopefully all will be well Thumbs Up ______________________________

Just installed a new battery. Also, an engineer at Gap suggested I check the voltage on the ignition switch. I did that, and all 3 large wires and the red/purple small wire were at 14v with the switch in the on position. The small wire that starts the engine is only on when the engine is running. So I don't think it's the switch.

Thanks for the suggestions. I enabled transport mode when trying to debug the suspension and forgot to disable it. I disabled it, cleared codes, restarted the car and I'm still left with this. Suspension control doesn't work.

I wouldn't bother chasing any fault codes at this time, instead probing with a voltmeter looking for a bad connection, checking earths and power spots in the engine bay fuse box for starters for where the voltage drops off from the battery voltage. You may find a loose connection on a mega-fuse or a blown fusible link.

Sorry I meant to write 14v, not 4v.

I should also mention that the previous owner replaced the carpeting and steering wheel sensor.

So not a major voltage problem....

Maybe check for connectors in the vicinity of the steering column that may have been dislodged when the carpet was replaced.

I fixed a few other issues and paired the error list down issues that aren't clearly broken parts. Here's the list now. Hopefully this will lead me to a location to check for a specific module or connection.

I don't have a wiring diagram for pre MY07 when Terrain Response was introduced although I'm unsure about your vehicle which I understand has an e-diff which for MY07+ requires TR. MY07+ suspension module has an ignition feed via a 5A fuse in the central junction box so I'd check your fuse chart to see if a 5A suspension system fuse exists. If it does and the fuse isn't blown, is there good voltage at the fuse when probed through the top of the fuse? MY07+ suspension modules have 4 connectors whereas the earlier ones had a long single connector. The suspension module is located under the left end of the facia with the connectors on the bottom edge.

For MY07+ and possibly your vehicle too the instrument pack has both medium speed and high speed canbus connections. I wonder if there is a fault with the medium speed canbus or with a device attached to it. Does the instrument cluster appear to work?

I believe it has a locking center diff, but the rear diff is open. I also understand that most of the interior electronics are shared with 03-05 and the powertrain is shared with 07-09. Most things on the car work--immobilizer, instrument cluster, radio, lights, windows, HVAC, transfer case switch, and even the 4wd page and height sensor read out. The only problem I've noticed is that adjusting the suspension gives error about the car not running, but of course that's a serious problem! I took apart the center console and removed the glove box and it had been taken apart before by someone who didn't care about putting all the screws back. And the wiper relay was loose so I pushed it up. Point being that it seems likely to me that someone with a weak commitment to quality could have failed to put some connector on properly. Gap had been helping me some off hours, but hopefully they can help some more then they are back at the office.

I'll try finding the fuses and ECU probably later tomorrow or Monday night, thanks for the input.

I had in mind that all 4.2SC had the rear e-diff but that clashed with what I know about the e-diff control in MY07+. If yours doesn't have the rear e-diff then it must be that all MY07+ 4.2SC have the rear e-diff whereas it was optional for other MY07+ engines.

I have the wiring schematic of the pre-TR suspension ecu. It does not have an ignition supply as such, only a 15A permanent supply and a 50A fuse for the compressor. I see a BCU (body control ecu) connection which must be providing the ignition indication, either as a digital signal or as an analogue signal. Either way, it sounds as though the message from the BCU isn't getting to the suspension ecu. Hence with all the other comms faults I would be looking at the BCU plugs. At this time I have no information on the location of the BCU.
