DPF red warning

Hi. I have just got a red DPF visit dealer warning appear on my dash. Straight to red no yellow warning.
The nearest place to my house is 180km away with over 100km on motorway , would it be OK to drive that distance or do I need to get it on a recovery vehicle.
Any advice is appreciated
cheers Aaron

can you see if a suitable LR garage is nearer?

EDIT: I wouldn't drive it 100miles Cheers, Greg

Thanks for the responses. Currently I am in Bulgaria been stuck here because of lockdown. We had stricter rules here than in UK so couldnt travel anywhere since early March.
The nearest place to me is 180km away.

ah ok so you you are at home - good thought you were stranded!

so sudden DPF full is most likely an air system leak so have a search on here regarding your 4 donut hoses. and also the throttle body intake hose.

Once (if) you find the leak you will still need to get a garage with the right kit to do a forced regeneration to remove the RED

.. Cheers, Greg

Hi Greg.
Had the bonnet up checked hoses and no obvious signs of leaks anywhere.
The nearest place to me to try and get codes cleared is 15km, then I have to head out of the mountains and on to Sofia to find either a DPF specialist or the Land Rover main dealer.
Would I be correct in thinking that if i get the codes cleared, and then drive to Sofia it should be OK for the journey. A clean is looking at around 250euros .

look at my threads ref this. It was a cracked inlet manifold only discoverable by HIGH pressure smoke test. could be a tiny crack in a pipe, not visible to the eye.

Buy an IID tool now. Best investment for this car. You can then monitor the soot levels etc. I managed to reset my Red warning with IID.

If the soot level goes above 28.5g, LR will not be able to force regeneration. I had to get mine done by Terraclean for £200. I was able to drive normally for several hundred miles before it came back, so then had inlet manifold changed.

How did you reset with an iid tool, I thought when red, they needed a forced regen?

Yes I agree to invest in an IID.
However it won't clear a RED DPF warning.
(Dolphin boy how did you do yours? because I've tried!)

Yes as Dolphinboy says it will come back unless you find the cause.

You can enquire to nearby garages about smoke tests but it has to be a high pressure machine as normal smoke tests won't find a leak.

Usual suspects:
- Cracked inlet manifold as Dolphinboy says
- 4 x donut hoses but they can crack underneath or within the clip area so you really should fully remove and check
- hose connection to the throttle body too
- CSOV valve can stick

all searchable here Cheers, Greg

I only managed it once, before the soot level got to 28.5 (forced regeneration cut off). I did an oil change as fuel in oil level was reading 12 (Cut off is 7!!)

I then went in and reset all fault codes and the red warning went off. managed to drive around for a few hundred miles before getting restricted performances and then red DPF warning, but by then the levels were too high for LR to clean.

If it were me:
1) Low loader recovery to a specialist of known reputability and has the right knowledge, experience and kit
2) High pressure smoke test. Not a low pressure one. High will find all leaks
3) Diagnose and replace item
4) DPF clear
5) Long road test home

Hi. I have just got back from the local garage , I asked them to do check the fault codes and do a forced regen.
Apparently I have 60g of soot which is above the limit for a regen .
These 2 codes are logged P2463-00 Diesel particulate filter restriction soot accumulation bank 1
and P040D-00 Exhaust gas recirculation temperature sensor A circuit high.

Advice from garage is take it to the Land Rover dealer in Sofia 180km away ,he thinks it should be OK to drive there.
since the light came on I have driven less than 30km.

Does anyone think a clean will help or only a replacement DPF will fix the problem?

Again any advice appreciated

DPFs are more resilient that some say. A dealer will tell you to buy a new one. But it may be clean-able.

But I would not drive it if it has 60g

30g is excessive.

Neither of your error codes explain why it's filling to extreme. And you need to find that. Then sort the DPF.

. Cheers, Greg

I had Terraclean clear my DPF for £200. above a level of 28.5g the LR equipment will NOT be able to force regeneration.

60g is extremely high. I would not drive far or fast. DPF probs can damage engine.

you deffo have a problem with air leak causing high level of soot production.

Thanks for the replies, I am gonna take the forum advice and not drive the car anymore.
At the moment I am trying to find a mobile cleaning service as the cost of a recovery vehicle and hotel costs will soon mount up, thats without the unknown repair costs.
So my weekend project is to thoroughly inspect all hoses, donut etc for any obvious problems ,and on Monday restock my wallet and get some experts to check it out.

The fuel in Bulgaria is not meant to be top quality and has a high sulphur content...if true ,would this be a contributing factor?
