Bonnet springs

Hi all

Popped Sylvia’s bonnet yesterday and the bonnet didn’t pop up.

For a minute I thought that the release cable may have broken but when I checked the bonnet had opened but had not popped up to its secondary lock position.

I lubricated the springs on the bonnet lock prongs and checked the gas struts but still no joy.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Jim

The bonnet wont simply spring up Jim as there is a manual safety lock... After that the gas struts hold the bonnet up! If they are failing then the bonnet will gradually close!

Hi Craig

It’s when you first pull the bonnet release. Normally the bonnet will pop and spring up an inch or so.

The bonnet does move at the moment and you have to lift it to release the secondary release.

The gas struts hold the bonnet open but look as it they are a few years old. The current ones are “Stabilus” make. I was going to fit another set of these?

Jim

Try unwinding the rubber stops either side of the bonnet a little, worked for me.
