Spare Wheel sizing

Hi all

Just had the inevitable puncture whilst a monsoon was letting go. Pulled the spare and got going again the mi,e back home.

Then I noticed the spare was a 255/50/20 and I am running 55's. I guess this is a) a no no and b) does a 255/55/20 fit in the wheel well?

Thanks 2011 4.4tdv8 Vogue

For a short run I would be OK with that. I am looking at changing my spare for a 255.50.20 for the following reason: Cool

The 255.55.20 does squeeze into the spare wheel compartment but it is tight. I had one as my spare and a couple of weeks ago I tried to get it out.

I have problems lifting weights since an operation and the bl**dy thing stuck. I had to ring a mate to come and bail me out.

If I had been fit I would probably have managed as he did.

The problem was partly down to Pete (Haylands). Rolling with laughter He showed a Sprinter jack in place of the LR death trap. I decided I would try but undid the LR wire one before taking the wheel out. It slipped down and jammed the whole thing. Shocked

So , in short, if you are fit it will. Best try it before being stuck on the road. Very Happy Very Happy John

Thanks for that. Ordered one to replace the damage and will, get another once I have had wheel refurbed and put in spare.

I would rather have same size. As it is I will have to cancel, MOT until replaced due to mismatch. Annoyed I have not checked before.

Thanks for searching. I never find what I want when doing that. 2011 4.4tdv8 Vogue

You might have to cancel MOT permanently if the tester notices that you are running 255/55/20 as they were never in the size specifications parameters on the data bases for an L322! "thus, FAIL"

Tis ridiculous I know, but I had an ML failed for the same type of issue, over here on the Chassis/EU data-base.

Although I can believe a tyre size difference might cause a FAIL in France or Germany, its not likely in UK as they never check what was homolgated for the vehicle.
I've run tyre sizes on other vehicles that didn't remotely match what any variant ever had and they only check the tread depth & sidewall condition to see whether the tyre is safe or rnot. I've also had massive differences in front & rear tyres (not on a 4x4) and there was never any comments. Paul,

Agree. They don’t check in the UK but I would inform your insurance company. That’s my plan when I go 55 profile Thumbs Up Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Been through two CTs, Rich with no comment. I’m thinking of going to 255/50/20 next time I get tyres for the reasons I mentioned above. John
