tdv8 4.4 low fuel warning

I'm sure this has been said before but , i was towing my caravan down to South coast last year when the fuel gauge dropped like a stone to empty accompanied by the dreaded bong and amber warning . I knew i had at least 3/4 of a tank so we pressed on and 80 miles later the whole car started shaking and slowing down . The ecu shut's the engine down which meant recovery to our destination . On arrival the gauge went back to normal and stayed like that until the day we set off for home , you couldn't make it up Big Cry .
So recovery home with caravan , i set about looking inside the tank for the expected crimp repairs on the senders but they had been done . It soon became obvious that the problem was inside the moulded connector on the tank so i picked it apart , cleaned it up and packed with dialectic grease , reassembled and it's been fine since .
So fellow Rangie members don't ignore the fuel warning it bites Embarassed . 2011 tdv8 4.4 vogue Santorini black

So your saying the ECU refused to fire up the engine when it had 3/4 of tank of fuel in it?

Failing to understand what towing had to do with it.

Not being a diesel expert is it to protect from air in fuel system like direct injection petrols?

Weird how it worked once you got to the destination.

The ecu thinks the engine is running out of fuel , so it starts to shut down by stuttering the engine and if it carries on being run it stops altogether. The towing was nothing to do with the issue just an inconvenience .
The point i was making was don't just think it's a fuel level warning and ignore it , when the ecu has had enough you can be stranded at the worst possible time . 2011 tdv8 4.4 vogue Santorini black
