Beware of Renewal Price Hikes

I've just had my A-Plan renewal quote and its gone from £513.85 to £895.06 (74% Increase). Ageas
That’s on the basis of no changes to my policy, no claims and 10 Year NCD.

The explanation is that there are high number of Accidents over this last year and so premiums are increasing (despite being in lockdown and despite Admiral giving partial refunds... for the low risk / claims in lockdown).

So off to comparison sites and the same underwriter (Ageas) is 3rd cheapest at £ 541 Comparethemarket

I unded up going with an even cheaper insurer AXA.
So, beware of the A-Plan price hikes. I did mention that I’m part of this forum and they are sponsors, but they were having none of it. -------------------------------------

I made the mistake of going for the cheapest quote without checking the windscreen cover properly. You can guess what happened the following week..... 2017 Jaguar F Pace 25t Portfolio - still part of the JLR family 😀

Hi bwelton,

Unfortunately Range Rovers specifically have shown a rise in thefts (not necessarily accidents), I commend Admiral for offering the £25 rebate - especially so early into lockdown before any real statistics could develop. Their risk profile of their insured must have shown a decline, however, this doesn't always stretch across all insurers.

Our specialist 4x4 insurers have a high percentage of RR's in their risk profiles and as such that statistical data will be different from say Admiral who predominantly insure standard, day to day vehicles. Ageas who you have gone with is the standard insurer - not quite the same cover as the specialist arm of the insurer Ageas Optima (actually quite a few differences to level of cover).

Hopefully we can win you back in the future, sorry we weren't competitive this year. As much as we'd love to, we can't win them all.

Whilst I don't have old fatty any more I was with Admiral and changed the policy over to my i3. We have my wife's car (Outlander PHEV) on a multi car policy too. Renewal came through at £590 for the pair, slightly lower than last year and we did get the £25 per car refund during lockdown.
I was ready to push the button but thought Id just try my previous insurers Direct Line, for the two cars £421 with lower excess etc.
Contacted Admiral to say don't renew and they came back with £430. This really gets my backup, why didn't they make the offer straight away? They don't reward loyalty so on principle I wouldnt have stayed even if they'd equalled the offer. BMW i3 Electric Car

That's always been my stance on renewals, I won't stay with them if they offer to drop the price when I call to cancel as I don't like someone trying to rip me off. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

Insurance companies always bump up auto-renewals ( I'm sure I read somewhere it's usually by 20%), simply because they think people will assume the price is as good as it can be (as an existing customer) and won't shop around.

I do this dance every year, it gets tiring Censored Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Just makes no sense Question

As a broker we obviously look around at renewal and use multiple insurers - sometimes even if we are keeping you with the same insurer we are returning you to them as a new customer because many (not all) have renewal discounts which are less than a new customer discount. Some insurers there's no difference but as a broker we check this before inviting.

Well, i've been a long time policy holder, am in a very low risk area and the policy has had a massive increase to £734pa. Sadly i wont be renewing the cover, when the Porsche comes up in a few months i'll be looking around too. Maybe you need to get a larger panel of insurers who are willing to cover the risk, plenty others out there!

That's a shame Crying or Very sad I hope you've been happy with us for all the time you've been with us and that you do return to us in future - insurers change their criteria frequently so hopefully next year we will be more competitive for you.

We have a panel of over 40 insurers which is consistently reviewed. There are plenty of insurers out there but some unfortunately do not make our panel due to various reasons (level of cover, service, claim payout ratios etc). If we are offering cover to our clients then it needs to meet the standards to ensure the cover we are recommending is suitable for your needs and will be more than suitable in the event of a claim.

Hopefully have you back with us next year!

LV have declined to propose a renewal price on mine, quoting their withdrawal from insuring L405s (not sure which other Range Rovers). Not looking forward to getting renewal quotes this month! Big Cry L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

My LV policy runs out next month. When I bought my L405 the insurance company I was using for my D4 (O2) wouldn’t insure it which was why I went with LV in the first place.

With a smaller pool of companies willing to insure L405’s, competitiveness is going to take a hit, and we all know prices only go one way when that happens Big Cry

It's about time JLR got a lid on this theft of their marque... It's not acceptable some 10yrs down the line!!!

For you guys in London, have you looked into quotes after security add ons? Like Immobilisers? I have them on my cars if only to protect our "extra's" on my cars as I would lose out massively if theft occurred!

And finally, it's about time insurance companies stopped this "rip off" clients mentality! If I chose to "hmmm, invoice my repeat customers in that fashion! I wouldn't expect to keep them OR my business for long" let alone sleep well at night! You're a bloody embarrassment! Get some morals..... Rolling Eyes

have to agree Craig, most of the time folk are just too complacent.
