Getting there slowly. You made absolutely sure the connector isn’t tucked behind the sunroof switch? I know you probably have, but sometimes they are well hidden behind the headlining.....

Morning, I'll have another look later today inside the light unit, one thing i did notice when i connected the mic to the plug in the light unit was that there wasn't any slack, it was very tight, so maybe it is tucked away inside head lining, we'll see, have got a bit of a noisy water pump, so have ordered a new one, should be here Wednesday or Thursday, probably fit it over the weekend, no problem with over heating or anything, just being safe, had a "whump whump" noise, so got a stethoscope on it to trace the sound , got loud when i put it on the pump hence swopping it out.

Afternoon, took the heater facia panel off, took out the overhead light fitting, got the centre console lifted up so i could see all the cables underneath, no screened cable for the mic there, the wiring in the over head light seems to run to the right towards the screen piller, i presume it then drops down & then runs across back towards the centre console, so i think its tucked away along that route somewhere, think it will be easier to run another cable from the rear to the mic in the light fitting, i think i may get auto electrician to give me a price, so frustrating,

I guess you can’t search any more than that really. It will work well when it’s finished.

Morning all, hope everyone still save & well, the new water pump turned up last week, went ahead & fitted it, noticed when i took it out that the 3/4" hose connected from the heater control valve to the pump had a "O" ring on it, also had a collar on it which was also loose, thought this was strange, anyway, took the o ring off & reconnected the pipe, put everything back, filled & vented system, all ok, checked for leaks, let the car run until up to temp, turned engine off, put all tools away, closed bonnet then noticed water pouring out!!!!! investigated, found that the hose that had the "O" ring on it was leaking, so stripped down again, took off the hose completely, found that the collar was in fact part of the fixed sealing part of the hose, obviously the previous owner had a problem with it & instead of just buying a new hose (£25) put the "O" ring on to seal it, So have fitted new hose, everything fine now. Back to the mic, took the mic out of the light binnacle & plugged it straight in to the lead from the rear of the car (which will be in the centre console) and made a phone call, worked great, clear as a bell both ends, so I'm going to take dash out this morning & see if i can find other end of mic cable, i lost its path after the front "A" pillar, in the mean time I've ordered a couple of BMW 3 pin connectors, male & female ends just in case i can't find the other end & have to run in a new cable, they should be here later this week. Fingers crossed.

Hello Bushy, had a look in that location the other week, virtually nothing on that side of the centre console, most everything seems to be coming from the right hand side of car ( ignition switch side) i can trace the mic cable from the overhead light to the drivers side front A pillar, it then runs down the side of the windscreen to underneath the dashboard, then i lose it from there, have had the radio & heater control panels out to see if it then runs underneath the centre console, nothing there, so i have decided to run a new shielded cable in, have stripped down everything in prep for the new plugs to turn up, hopefully next couple of days, motor looks a mess inside at the moment with all the front stripped out lol, will pull the new cable through in the morning & put everything back, so hopefully just leaves the plugs to connect.

Evening all, All up & working now, ran a new cable from the rear plug to the mic, clear as a bell both ends, but no phonebook downloaded, think that's down to the ulf module, gen 3, think I need gen 6 upwards, been online & nothing suitable, but I'll keep checking, did find a fella in Spain that had a gen 10 & a gen 13 but he had sold them, anyway thanks to everyone who contributed advice / info, been very welcome.

That’s good then. It works well once it’s up and running. If you find a later ULF and it says MIT SES on the label, it will also allow voice recognition to the RR systems, I might have said that already though....
