Did you find a bodyshop in the end to cut it all out? Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

I just discovered the same issue with my 03...on both sides so I am very interested to see how you tackle this. Even if you can get new panels made, what about all the rusted parts behind the sill?

Yea, the pictures are all on the second page of this thread, some of it has been left on as they didn't want to cut out too much, they will worry about the finer details later on.

That is a very good question.........some of it is surface rust, some will need chopping out and replacing with made up sections.
But there is an update, so i'll be posting after this one.

So a little update for where we are.
I've had some good email exchanges with YRM (Ronnie) and a few phone calls, they are able to make the sill panels for me .... YAY Very Happy

But making the arch section isnt going to be in the best interest of both parties. The tooling would be very expensive to create for the manufacturer, and make the part very expensive to myself.

I have been looking high and low in the mean time (mainly on ebay) and contacting breakers/spares or repairs L322 and not having much luck as most of the panels and arches were shot.

I was able to find an near rear wheel arch finally on ebay, but this second hand part was going for almost £80 for the pressed arch section only, I had decided not to purchase it as the seller didnt have the other side.

I said to Ronnie in an e-mail this morning let me think about it to see what else i could find.
This afternoon I was able find a late model L322 TDV8 where the engine has blown up only 20 minutes away from where I am, so I shot off to take a look.
I turned up and said I want the relevant sections cut out, I went back a few hours later and there they were waiting for me.
There was infact another L322 that they had, someone had already beaten me to it on the sills and arches, luckily there was another there and I was able to nab those. From £300, the deal was done at £250 as I knew I wasnt going to find these again in as good condition in my local area

There is some surface rust toward the underside of the panels but the rest of them are in great condition in comparison.

The whole sections obviously wont be fitted to the car as the breaker cut out right up to the rear door latch, but as it includes the inner panels as well, i'll have a chat with my garage to see what is best regarding re fitment, then it'll be off to the bodyshop for some paint. Ill get a few dings and items painted whilst i'm there (depending on cost)

I will contact Ronnie tomorrow to state that I have managed to find these sills and arch panels and see what he can do about stocking these on their web site or contact methods etc. He has all my measurements and profile heights for the rear sill panels.
As mentioned earlier on, they are unable to fabricate the pressed arch panels due to cost.

This is just one of many pictures and measurements that was sent to YRM, so you know what would be manufacturered.

Curious why you didn't consider cutting a larger piece from the donor vehicle? I see you had rust bubble at the rear towards the bumper. It's sort of funny but I think we are rust twins...our issues look identical.

Ive got more cut than I needed and everything else is superficial and can be repaired.

I think most of these early range rovers are twins in that department lol, as most RR “spares or repairs” on ebay told me the sills were way past it, my car would fall into that category.

I remember when I owned classics, I always bought the ones where all the rust on the sills and chasis had been dealt with my the preious owner.
Cant complain though, cheap buy, didnt take long to get it running from a non runner inc the intermitent ignition switch, just the body work now to make it look pretty.

Ive looked at my WJ 4.7 grand cherokee ive got and the sills dont even need a bit of treatment, there in gr8 condition and its 3 years older (tho I have had it 10 years mind and i do take exceptionally good care after it, especially after a bit of green laning)

It really shocked me when I discovered the amount of corrosion existed on the L322, I mean, it is a modern Land Rover and not THAT old. Anyway, I am looking forward to see the results of your repair. By the way, how does your rear subframe/suspension bits look in terms of rust? Mine has some surface rust from what I can see but I wonder what I'll find if I look hard...?

Right, little update...the welding is done !!

I wont mention how much the bill was but it was more than I was expecting, 2 days labour and they didnt charge me their welding rate, otherwise it would have been a heck of a lot more. The reason for the additional cost is because they had to unpick at the seams the bits of the panel they wanted to use for the repair.

I'll let the pictures do the talking but i'm happy with the work, just needed to do a quick hoover of the inside but aside from that .

Its booked in at the bodyshop next week for the rest, price agreed and a mop of the whole car so should shave 10 years off the old girl I hope !! Very Happy

I have spent 3 hours a night the past 2 nights scraping off as much surface rust as I can from the underside of the vehicle (front to back). It wasn't pretty, thank the lord for goggles and comma black underseal.

Makes me think if this was done at 100.000 or with some other non coloured special oils via a land rover service bulletin a lot of L322's out there would be in much better condition than they are at the moment

They also re-added the strengthening metal/welding to allow the car to be lifted from the rear again via the sill grommets (still think ill only ever trust lifting it via door open, with the wheels on on those even the front ones).

If it gets lifted with the wheels off and the door open, ill be jacking it on the leg braces etc[/list]

Rear subframe and suspension bits.........in a word not good. Don't look !! - you'll feel much better for it.
As much scraping off as I could be bothered to do, and that was a lot !!

I may have an opportunity to purchase a dead but complete L322 with zero rust for VERY cheap. It would be a good donor vehicle for me to cut the panels and maybe even swap the entire rear subframe over...gives me a headache just thinking about it though...

Hey guys

Got the old girl back last week, and I have to say I am one happy man.
Great workmanship via the welders at my local MOT shop, and the paint and body for the bits that we discussed after the welding was done.

I'll let the pictures speak for themselves again (Forgot to get a picture before the sill covers went back on and I can't be asked to take them off again but you saw the just of what was done after the new sills were welded in) just needed a bit of sanding/primer/paint/lacquer. All paint work that was done, occured in a booth.

Its unfortunate I wasn't able to get any sills made up in the end, I really had hoped that my measurements would have worked out as a blueprint for others for a box section for the inner/outer sills, but then it wasn't meant to be.
It could have easily have wrote off the vehicle if it didn't pass its next MOT and instead of it being what it is now, I would have had to have broke it.

Same place I was able to get the sills from, I got myself a new steering wheel for £50 that looks brand new after a clean up
*Fitted after negative lead left off for 20 mins, no power to the car.
