2019 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Aintree Green

Did anyone really believe that reputable car parts suppliers were retailing pretend Brembo parts - and that neither they, their customers or Brembo cared?

No, no one thought that, this started as a discussion on who made the genuine parts for JLR

As usual it went a bit sideways now and again.. Rolling Eyes

Think we've got to the bottom of it now... Thumbs Up Pete

Did some more work on the Rangie today, first job, get rid of the front discs and pads, as usual the pins were corroded into the calipers, both bottom pins, some localised heat and a brass drift soon had them surrendering...

These calipers are so big I used a transmission jack to stop them hanging on their flexes...!! (actually it was nearby and less distance to walk than getting some tie wraps)

All done with a new hardware pack and plenty of brake grease on the pins..

The old discs looked like they have circummed to heat damage, they did have a good sized wear lip on the edge so they were ready for changing, the pads were about 2/3rds worn..

While I had the suspension hanging I cleaned up the front airbags of the hardened line of crud they get, you can see in this picture where I have cleaned a bit off, this stuff is rock hard and needs a wire brush to get off, luckily there is plenty of room to get your hand around the back, cleaning this off makes the bags last longer, you can also see some rust from water sitting, I cleaned this off as well...

All nice and clean...

I also changed the engine oil and filter, both axles with their respective correct fluid and the transfer box, all the old oils were clean but dark so showing signs of use and age....

I was going to change the gearbox oil but my mate who owns the garaged remembered the last time I changed the oil in a Range Rover gearbox, without thinking I removed the fill plug first (as you should) FULLY before I had removed the drain plug and without starting the engine... trying to shove it back in against the onslaught of five litres of oil desperately trying to get out was a total failure and the mess took hours to clean up...

He tactfully asked if I'd mind thinking of another way.... actually he said "You Censored Censored your not doing that again in my garage...."

I know another guy with a lift who owes me a favour so I might try there..!!

So, most of the work done, the mask for the decals on the front calipers didn't turn up so I will paint them later.. at least if stops fine now after the bed in procedure for the carbon ceramic brake pads... Pete

Fatty came with extended Burr wood trim, this was an option as piano black is "standard" on the S/C.... anyway some may remember me covering the genuine wood with fake carbon fibre in Fatty offroader...!!!!

Well something similar was going to happen here until nearlee responded to my request to swap some piano black for the wood...

There are 14 pieces and 10 of them take about 30mins to change, the two little bits either side of the head unit are the PITA and require you to do this to the dash to get to two screws...!!!

You end up with a back seat full of bits...

When they are all changed I think they look great, fatty now has a complete black interior and I'm loving it...

 Pete

There is only a couple of the woods I like, there’s a burr maple one, and a sort of striped grey one.

Other than them, Piano Black is the way to go. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thats looks a lot better, i would have gone for Burr Maple Prussian Blue Finisher or Lined Oak Anthracite. Always like to be a little different

You are very brave to pull the dash apart. not for the faint hearted but results are well worth it. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I wished mine had the maple blue, never seen it in the flesh though.

Looks good Pete.

Thanks chaps, I'm really anti wood so it suits me, I have to say there are twice as many screws holding this dash together than the 2002 I had, lots more soundproofing as well and everything fits better.... Thumbs Up Pete

Have to say, that does look much better. I would not have the balls/expertise to attempt it though!

You also did well on your brake discs Pete at £76.95 each incl VAT with the forum discount. I just got quoted £113 each incl VAT and discount from Duckworths for an 02 4.4 petrol.

Seems like it's cheaper to maintain a 5.0 s/c! Another reason for me to buy one then. 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Fuji White
