You will be surprised how much of your "British" or "German" vehicle is made in China.

At least they are being honest about the parts origins. 2003 Range Rover Vogue TD6

Not everything that comes out of the same factory is to the same spec - different customers demand different things.

There have been a few threads - batteries & brake pads spring to mind - where there JLR spec appears better than the 'own brand' of the manufacturer

With a genuine part, you know it will work - anything else is a roll of the dice Thumbs Up

I have a friend with an Aston - the apparent mark up on their parts is eye watering and make JLR look amateur

And unfortunately it often works the other way around, the manufacturer asks for a specific specification and that is what is made for them but the company itself is selling pattern parts that are to a new, higher spec...

I just thought it was funny that the one thing that could wreck this very nice engine originated in China, I'm sure it will be fine.....!! Pete

As Brian posted above - I wonder how much of the car actually comes from China - I'm sure a fair number of the peripheral parts originate there.

A bit off topic, but when I was on the Solihull factory tour one of the surprises on the Defender line (which then still existed) was that Defender axles came from Ghana. Maybe the recent supply chain disruption will encourage reshoring, for the sake of the UK engineering industry I hope so. Only Range Rovers since 1988

A Trap

Having all the parts coming from a ‘local’ supply chain in the UK sounds good in theory but you wouldn’t buy the overly expensive car in the end, it’s the same with clothes etc, to buy at the price we want we need ‘sweat shops’ and cheap labour and the might of massive factories and workforce’s that India and China can provide.

Most manufacturers mask it buy assembling in country but importing most of the parts.

That's a good point about the bubble wrap!

Once you pop you can't stop!
