Painting l322 exhaust, Hammerite Paint ok ?

Hi all,

Read a few posts on here regarding painting their exhaust, some say high temp others say normal is fine

Does anyone know if the standard Hammerite? I have some Hammerite Smooth Metal Paint.

Or do I actually need a high-temperature paint for the back box ?

thanks alot 2003 Range Rover 4.4 Litre V8 - Adriatic blue

What's the worst that can happen ?

I'm fairly sure it's not flammable, so worst case it cracks & peels off ? Then is maybe harder to get the rest off & paint with something else ?

Given you already have the paint, I'd be inclined to just give it a try and live with any consequences.

Edited to add -

On second thoughts, having just looked on eBay - a tin of black BBQ spray paint is a tenner - I'd be more inclined to buy that....

High temp matt black spray works great. Surface preparation needed is minimal, just wash with soapy water, use the green (rough) side of a scotch brite sponge while you're at it. Rinse and let it dry.
You can use a piece of cardboard to protect areas you don't want sprayed.

Used Hammerite smooth satin black on both of ours, one was done nearly a year ago and is still fine. Make sure you prep well and get all the old loose stuff off and feather all of the edges with wet and dry. Drives:

Just to give you some encouragement.......

Quick wash with soapy water, dried with kitchen roll, rubbed over with a wire brush and two coats of high temp matt black paint applied by hand.

Ideal job for a bank holiday Monday Thumbs Up Current: FF Westminster money pit

Did mine with black BBQ paint. It’s all in the prep. The surface must be very clean and free of dirt and dust. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
