I have just loaded B.B. up with everything I need to do an oil and filter change ready for my 1st venture out in ages tomorrow, when I am going to drive it round to my son’s work yard because nobody works there on Sunday so I can work on it without any risk. I can’t do it at home because my drive is not level.
I am really looking forward to getting my hands dirty again.

Changed the engine thermostat. That was fun, not to be repeated in a hurry but good to see the needle on the temperature gauge in its correct position.

Changed all four Subframe Bushes on the back with Genuine Parts via Rob at Duckworths. They have been a MOT advisories two years running so needed doing.
For anyone else doing this, please use Genuine Parts as the ones mentioned on the site elsewhere have a round fitment in them where they meet the body - genuine ones are oval which then fit over the body mount properly without the chance of twisting and thus wearing prematurely. They are sold as 'rears' and 'fronts' - unlike the others which are all the same - the BMW X5 is different to the L302 in this regard. Gavin

Changed all 3 Idlers and the Tensioner for the Serpentine Belt then a Service of Oil and Oil Filter, Air Filter, Pollen Filter and Diesel Filter.
Sounds as quite as a Mouse 😎😎😎

Yesterday I finally left lock down and was able to go on a 100 mile drive from Bucharest to Alexandria in Romania. Re-taxed Georgie, ran the aircon for 10 minutes to cool the interior down before loading the Beagle in the back, then set off for a day out.

After exiting Bucharest onto the A6, I was able to boot the kick down and enjoy the power of the 4.4 diesel on empty stretches and during overtaking...

Visited a friends family (observing social distancing), walking Benji the Beagle, who was equally pleased to get out of the local area where he was also in lock down with limited walks.

On the way home just stopped off at the Romanian Parliament building, the second largest building in the world, for a photo call as the sun was just setting behind the parliament building.

I sneaked out in B.B. today
Even the clock was still on GMT, but soon righted that, then changed oil and filter, then quick blast up to M62 to clear out the soot.
All seems well and ready for a few days out as soon as possible.

After anti-rust painting the rear wheelarch lips I made a full set of lip protectors from an XJ40 boot seal.  L322 3.6 TDV8 Vogue. 07MY

Used it to recomission my p38, after 18 months started 1st time on the button cruise control not working, split vac pipe, rear wiper stuck, needs greasing air con could use a regas, result

All day polish by a professional not me! Looks fantastic.
