Only in the UK ( most parts of the EU it is cheaper ) they are now taking the PEE because they know how many people are running it , also many years ago you had a tax break from the UK government on Diesel as it was cleaner blah blah and cars got better MPG as a rule , as time went on low and behold the ass's realised a lot of people were moving to it so hence the tax levy increased what a shock !

Diesel is 7p a litre cheaper to make than petrol ! but retail well says it all we are getting ripped off yet again and no one will stand up to the fuel companies or the Governments taking the Censored how they cannot work out that it drives inflation 90% of the time is beyond me, and now risks putting us all back into a recession which lets be honest has still not gone away from 2009. Makes my blood boil Evil or Very Mad

Right that is off my chest, will go find some Toyota Prius cars to put some stickers on !! " Far to many gone...

Despite all the assurances to the contrary, I can't see LPG remaining immune to a tax hike either if it continues to increase in popularity. Not sure you should be reading this bit.

I think according to some EU directive it's a 'clean fuel' so is supposed to benefit from lower tax! I hope so anyway!

Not sure about the popularity bit either! Loads of LPG filling stations have closed down due to lack of custom! Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

Mind you, the further South I go the more expensive the diesel gets. In the Manchester area when it was £1.34 /l (£6.00) it was £1.39 (£6.25) in Cornwall (just a few weeks ago), the only cheap fuel being ASDA (who if I remember say they price their fuel the same wherever it is in the country when others don't). So in my FFRR it would cost another £5.50 to fill the car from empty - mind you, I had just put £130 of fuel in it for the trip down there so a fiver seems insignificant!! Steve

Filled up in France a few weeks back for €1.12, or about 95p/litre. Next trip I'm taking half a dozen jerry cans as well Very Happy

Mind you, a fuel leak recently saw to the savings Big Cry

Car's still in being fixed. New spill off pipes, 2 new injectors and a load of other bits. Thanking everything holy for warranty right now. Upside is they lent me a RR Westminster (Vogue ++ I think) which is quite a lot nicer than mine. I feel a Vogue SE coming on.

isnt it just maths ?

the gov needs xxx revenue from fuel

people move from petrol to diesel cars because fuel is cheaper/goes further

govt loses money

put price up on diesel to make up for it

the same would happen with LPG if sufficient people moved to it, but they dont ...

so it only going one way, the more people that move to diesel cars (thanks to CO based taxation mostly) the more expensive it will get relative to petrol...unless the govt decide to up taxes another way

maybe another 5p in the pound on income tax instead Sad

mmm...depressing to contemplate ....... cheers

Availabliity of LPG is also still a big factor for many - in the whole of the area north of Glasgow in the Central Scotland I know of one Shell forecourt that sells it................. there are several people in the village here have LPG cars - Subarus which were bought new with it fitted at the factory for free 3 or 4 years ago.
With the perversity of the tax system in this country I'm sure the Chancellor will find a clever stealth way to at least triple the tax on it in the budget......................... something like a "gas guzzlers that emit clean emissions" tax 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes
