The wiring to the sensors get very brittle and thus very easily broken, but I am not sure if a broken wire gives a permanent alarm or just stops the warning working when the pads wear down, sorry I can’t remember.

As above. They work on open circuit so if the wires are broken they don't show a fault but would not be working. If both are broken and touch or they short to ground they will show a fault.

The warning light works by part of the sensor being worn away breaking the connection between the 2 wires. Hence once the warning light comes on the sensor is worn-out. Cutting off the sensor and joining the wires together stops the warning light occurring. |

Advance warning, the rear ones are a pig to replace. Easiest to remove the inner liner, but doable with some patience when just undoing a bolt or two. Mine didn’t have the wire at all, so someone took a shortcut
