HDC ISSUE

Hi all, have an issue with the HDC on my Range Rover 2010 TDV8. When I press the HDC button nothing happens, no light on the touch screen or dash and the actual switch doesn't light up either. Put the car in low range and drove under 10mph and hit the switch and nothing happened along with the fact no lights on panel display.

The car has Terrain Response and the HDC switches on when Mud Ruts is selected ie the the button turns yellow and red on the 4x4 display and the little green car illuminates on the dash display but the actual HDC switch behind the gear selector doesn't light up. I've removed the gear selector gator and can't see and wires going to the switch that may be loose or broke. Anyone got any ideas or had anything similar ?

Sorry to be a little cheeky, but have you tried it on a hill and let it do its thing?

If not, go down the Side in the wet and let us know what happens. Mr. Green Cheers

Has a drink been spilt on the switches?

Thanks for the replies, I guess the way forward is indeed try it on a steep slope and see if the HDC kicks in or not and if it does then it's just the bulbs on the switch and dash not working. I've never spilt anything on the switch, you can't really see the wires going to the switch that well with the gear stick gator off but might be an idea to take the whole panel off if not too difficult and check for loose / broken wires.

Have a good read of the owner's manual to see when you can use the HDC. It doesn't need special programmes to be in use, it can be used in normal gears/hi/lo with some reservations. If you don't have the OM then see the Wiki. I would assume the 2010 has similar operation to the 2011-13 so go from there.

And if you are in Geordieland, the the Side is a great hill to test it on, if you can still go down there and the cobbles are still there. Cheers

Use cruise control + and - to increase or decrease the speed limit when in HDC Thumbs Up Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Thanks for the advice DrRob, unfortunately you can only go a small distance down The Side these days in cars and probably not enough to test the HDC.

I checked the owners manual and it should definitely switch on when you are driving ready to tackle any slope, the button should light up and the dash should display the little green sloping car along with the HDC message. As I mentioned previously the correct lights are illuminated on the dash when you use the mud ruts function on the Terrain Response dial.

I've just tried something that seems to have worked in a fashion !! I started the car and put it into the Mud Ruts mode, I then turned the car off whilst it was in that mode. When I restarted the car and put it back into normal mode the mud ruts function turned off but the HDC lights stayed on the dash and the speedo dial lit up green to 10mph to allow the restricted speed function to work ( the HDC on / off button still didn't light up though ). I drove the car a couple hundred yards on the flat and it stayed switched on at the desired speed. Still couldnt turn it off via the switch but when I turned the car off and then on again the HDC system switched back off !

I'm starting to think that the HDC button isn't working due to no power going to it, plan is to carry out the procedure i did above whilst on a slope to see if the system actually operates as it should ie ABS kicks in to keep the speed low and if so would suggest a suspect switch.

Forgot to mention I have checked the car with the GAP tool and no faults linked to the HDC.

Mine's a 4.4, and I've just been out to check and for the life of me cannot see a light on the centre console HDC switch, even with a makeshift cover over it. if I can later I'll check in the dark.

B uCensorede R about the Side, I suppose the council think it's a great cycleway. You could try Springbank.

Good idea on the next test, perhaps run through all the modes to see if any help. Good luck. Cheers

Thanks for that Richard, I have read the manual again and apparently the actual switch button may not light up after all ! certainly the HDC indicator should light up on the dash and the HDC section on the 4 x 4 screen should turn yellow and red. I take it when you press the button you get the little green car on the TFT screen and the HDC message in the centre of the screen ?

I did have Springbank in mind as it happens which is only about ten minutes away from me but will probably go for Bellvue Bank over the water as I think its a bit more steeper and really would test the ABS !

Cheers
Tom

Cheers Richard, much appreciated. If you could check to see if the green car symbol shows up on the TFT screen as a bulb check when the ignition is turned on that would be a help. The manual says it should but I don't get that either !

Hi Tom

Clunk, Mrs tripped out on low oil pressure. #Reset tomorrow am. Sad

My centre info screen on 4x4 info flashes a yellow HDC rectangle in the bottom centre for about 1 (one) second then goes out as you turn on the ignition. It does not come on green in the intrument screen.

In normal mode the green car does not appear on the instruments. As you move grass/gravel/snow it comes on and stays on for the other modes, but goes out on sand mode, coming on again for rock crawl.

It will come on on demand when you wish.

Hope it helps Cheers
Richard

That's interesting as it only comes on for me when I select mud ruts on the terrain response, looks like Bellvue Bank here I come 😊 Thanks for checking, that's a little bit more trouble shooting done.

Tom

Is yours a 4.4, if not we may have slightly differing modes? Cheers
