Check fuse 21 in the passenger fuse panel. It supplies power to the HDC switch.

If manual/sport indicator lights are working then the fuse is OK.

Mine is a 3.6 so settings are probably different Richard, I'm sure it's a case of not being able to switch it on manually and will likely see if I can get to the switch button to see if there's a problem with the switch. I've checked the workshop manual and can't see anything about removing the terrain response panel that has the fixed rotary dial, there's a you tube video that shows the removal of the later type panel that has the rotary gear change so it's probably similar.

Good tip Graeme, I made the assumption the fuse was ok for the HDC due to the HDC kicking in via the Terrain Response but if that fuse regulates the actual switch that may just be the issue and easier than stripping down the centre console.

Thanks for the info Graeme, just popped outside and low and behold the gear selector and sport mode lights are not lighting up ! Will check the fuse in the morning when it's light but likely fuse 21 is the problem so thanks for the heads up.

If chasing a short circuit, note the other 2 uses of that fuse - rear climate control switch-pack and climate-controlled seat module.

Morning all, checked fuses and none blown. Went to the trouble of checking all the fuses in the passenger compartment and none blown at all. Anyone know how to remove the rotary dial on the terrain response module ? Not sure if the rotary dial needs to be removed before you lift up the centre console or not.

Probably talking to the converted, (read talking drivel) but have you got the manual from the Wiki?

As far as I can see it could be a sod of a job to get to the rotary switch etc. as it looks like the centre console has to come out. I really hope someone says that's not so.

Let us know how you get on. Cheers

Hi Richard, managed to get the centre console off with no problems. Not difficult at all to be honest, just a case of pulling some trim off to access the screws. Took the plug off the Terrain Response module and all wires seem intact, was going to remove the actual module but don't think you would be able to dismantle the HDC button but might try that another day now I know how to get to it.

Cleaned the plug with some contact cleaner and some changes happened but still not able to switch HDC on when in normal mode, now it comes on not only in mud ruts but all the other programmes except the sand one which makes sense but only if I have it in low range. Also noticed that the speedometer moves to the right of the TFT screen and 4x4 wheel articulation comes up in the centre of the dash which it never did before. This could be progress of a kind I guess, does your 4.4 speedo do the same when you select manual HDC in normal mode or the special programmes ?

Hi Tom

Sorry for not replying earlier but mucking out the house. I'll try to run through the sequence on mine later this evening or early tomorrow and let you know. Certainly my TFT moves the speedo to the left when playing wiht the settings. I'll let you know.

It seems that you may have got something of a result by leaning the contacts and connectors, perhaps a deeper clean of the switches may also help. Cheers

Tom

More alpologies, got stuck on a few things yesterday.

My HDC can be turned on on demand in normal (high ratio) It tuns on and off automatically when cycling through the special programmes in hi or low. The speedo move right on low range only.

If you drop me a PM with an email address I'll forward a set of photos I took whilst running through the system.

Other than that any further joy? Cheers
Richard

Are the gear selector lights working?

Hi Graeme, the gear selector panel does seem to dimly illuminate when the ignition is on but does not light up as the gears are selected which I assume is what is supposed to happen. Same when you slide it over into sport mode, the little panel does not light up. Checked all the fuses and all seem fine, I've stripped the console and check all the wires and all seems ok. Funnily enough I have an issue with the rear heated seats not working whereby the lights don't even come on and starting to think it may be a power feed that runs to the HDC switch through to the rear seat buttons. I tested the hdc in one of the special programmes and the system definitely worked just not through normal programme. Not an expert on electrics so probably would struggle to find the issue of it wasn't blatant such as a fuse or loose connector.
