Another I used to stay in when I was a kid was Kinloch House Hotel nr Dunkeld. Anyone been there in the last 20 years?!! The guy who owned it back then wa sa total Tw"t. Hopefully he's gone/dead now.

funny you mention Kinloch House - the owner was a complete and utter arse Mad

BUT the food and accommodation was good

i had plenty of run in's with him as sometimes clients stayed there - found the best response was to be more obnoxious than him Laughing

Lands of Loyal in Alyth was quite good but at times was a bit 'Fawlty Towers' Smile

one other that springs to mind and i've just checked the web site is the Champany Inn at Linlithgow

i'm out of date but it used to be superb and from reading the web site is does not seem to have changed

loved the fresh lobsters/oysters kept alive in the Rock Pool in the bar Laughing

Have called Ballathie and the rates for a room in the main house are very competitive (DBB £108 in a Dble room) , think they will get the business, I've not been for 5 years so will be interesting to see if I think its worth it. Last time I went for one night so I stayed in the Fishermans Lodge, which was basic but ok. The Riverside suites are nice but there's nothing like going up to your room in the main house, that smell of old wood panelling and antiquity. Discovery 4 HSE
