Anyone here old enough to remember the BBC series/drama "Survivors" from (IIRC) the mid 70's ?

During watching the series I said - "that will happen one day".

Mind you, a few of my other observations have also proved true. 2003 Range Rover Vogue TD6

A Trap

Brexit and this crisis reminds me of the series Years and Years.

Maybe controversial but hey ho.

I would be interested in the following information;

On average 1400 people die per day in the UK (pre Covid). Are the current deaths in addition to this figure or an amalgamation.

I am only looking for a true representation of actual deaths attributed to the virus, only to assuage my concerns.

I am not taking away from the serious nature of the position we are in but maybe too much time on my hands .....

Keep safe

The deaths are reported for only Covid deaths, a very small percent would have likely died anyway as part of the ~1400 ‘normal’ deaths per day so you can take theses as new and a over normal figures deaths.... so yes, in addition.

The daily norm figures would tend to trend down as the UK and Europe comes out of winter and the normal cold/flu season but you will see the numbers continue to go up day on day for the next few months.

Italy has been doing a lot of research on the figures with the main take-away being that the death and infection numbers a massively under actual figures for both, I.e deaths not being attributed to Covid19 that should have been but the lack of testing and resources means they just end up in the fog of this crisis. And no one knows the total infections due to the lack of testing, apart from South Korea, this is a global issue.

We went to the supermarket 10 miles up the road. Had all our forms with us which we are required to fill in with date and time and giving reason for being out. Limited reasons allowed for going out. Food being an obvious one. Roads were empty apart from a couple of cars and several lorries. Saw no checks.

Used this supermarket as the do Drive so didn't need to go into the shop. Ordered on line on Sunday and was given a time for today, Thursday. Got a text and email when order was ready.

All very smooth and minimal contact.

Suppose i could have put this in "what did you do in your FF" Smile John

A Trap

Here in Spain it has got that bad in some regions they are choosing who to treat and just lettings those unfortunate enough not to be included pass away... this is horrible for everyone, families, the ill and the medical practitioners involved.

Just take note, this could be your country, your families or even you. Going out for a ‘jolly’ will make the situation worse for those around you.

Mine wasn't a "jolly". It was to get food. John

I think the rest of Europe gets it, it’s the UK and US that still think it’s a common cold and life can go on as before.

I think Italy and Spain are further up the curve than the UK and our worst is still to come Sad

But we have little choice but to put our trust in the people in charge and the scientists who think they are handling the situation in the correct manner. Only time will tell if they’ve chosen the correct path. One things for sure I wouldn’t swap places with them for all the tea in China.

I do think Boris has come across far more statesman like than I thought he was capable of, especially compared to the Clown on the other side of the pond.

My wife is NHS so I am out and about taking her to work at different times of the day and I haven’t seen any real flouting of the rules, most people seem to be following the guide lines.

I agree - I have changed my view of Boris - gone is the bumbling buffoon act - he seems to be showing good leadership & deferring to the experts as appropriate, at least on TV.

Also when I've ventured out shopping, the streets are deserted, the news is definitely picking the few idiots to show, but isn't reflective of the country as a whole.

You also have to remember the flattening the curve message - it's about managing the stress on the NHS and not particularly about stopping things dead. I think there is some deliberate vagary in the messaging so that some things can carry on whilst most things stop. However, if the NHS become overwhelmed then expect clearer messaging.
