Polishinng factory tinted glass

Hi,

Hopefully an easy question: Are factory tints on sides and rear placed between the laminates? Or are they applied on the outside/inside like aftermarket films?

Reason for asking is the real question. Is it safe to polish factory tinted glass with glass polish? I have Autoglym glass polish and as an abrasive it says not to use on tinted glass, but not sure if this is just aftermarket films which could/would get scuffed worn?

The sides aren't really a problem but would like to do the rear as this gets badly dirty and good to get all contamination removed easily, fast glass and the like just don't cut it. (pardon the pun)

Thanks for any help with this, know it's quite trivial.

I thought the factory tint was actually coloured glass?

If you have the Supaglass option that is on the inside of the glass.

Make sure you replace your wiper after polishing the glass, it makes all the difference. A rough screen wears the wipers out in no time.

Let me know how you get on with the glas polish as I've got some in the garage I want to try.

Dan - if you want to get the glass really clean use the glass cleaner with a rotary polisher - something like the Megs/UDM - not a full blown rotary polisher UNLESS you are experience!!

clean wiper blades with IPA

Thanks - so seems it shouldn't be a problem then.

Dan - no not got the supaglass, wasn't an option I as far as I can remember. Dealer certainly didn't mention it.

The AG polish is the abrasive glass polish (not suitable for tints) as stated on the bottle, not the Fast Glass which is, hence the question of whether factory are film or not. It's a peppermint creme sort of colour with a minty smell - rather nice really.

I have a Flex 3401 Da polisher and intend on using that. Going to try on glass in shower first to see how good it works, then hit the car with it this weekend to a dazzling shine.

Thanks again everyone. Will let you know how it goes when done. Just a pity I have to wait til the weekend to play...

...also this is not to fix any defects with the windscreens/windows. Car is only 3 months old so nothing wrong, just wanted best way to give a good clean over and above spray window cleaners.

Don't think I need to replace the wipers either - as again only 3 months old (hope they last longer than that).

Awesome! That's all I can say. Tried last night on shower glass and it's come up better than expected. Live in very hard water area and so had water stains on glass when catching the light at right angle (even the cleaner couldn't remove these, and she's good!) All completely gone.

Just need to try on the car. How sad am I... But simple things and all that.
