I’ve always considered torque on a big 4X4 to be the most important figure. So the combination of the highest torque output and reasonable (to me) mpg, made the SDV8 the obvious choice for me.

I get exactly the same feeling sucking up air through a massive Intercooler and forcing it into the V8 Diesel through 2 TurboChargers.

They are both forms of forced induction - the V8 Diesel gets two Chargers though Thumbs Up Very Happy 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

There are compromises with all the engines in the FFRR. I was prepared to sacrifice the wonderful noise of the SC for more mpg and torque.
In an ideal world I’d have both. 😀

You obviously haven’t driven a modern diesel or even an SDV8, as I have never been embarrassed - it’s one of the most capable engines out there and is unstoppable right up to when the limiter cuts in at max speed.

Having had both, although admittedly so far the 5.0 litre for a very short period, they are both superb engines. But they are different in how their power output is delivered. Probably not much in it in a drag race but there is no doubt that if one is allowed to put the go peddle all the way to the floor for any length of time, the 5.0 is a flood of raw power that never fails to amaze me. With the diesel, you know you’re hustling along very nicely, but it just doesn’t have the same effect on the senses.

I caveat it that with the fact that on most British roads with their speed cameras and heavy traffic both are probably a complete waste of time Rolling with laughter

I see the 2020 and maybe the 2019 have a HSE 5.0 V8 kind of like the 2013 HSE. I was wondering how it differs from the 5.0 V8 SC??

United States 2015 Range Rover 5.0 SC V8 Fuji White

On subject of engines, attached is screen shot of recent trip to New York to rescue my daughter from the shutdown. Vehicle is 5.0 supercharged short wheel base. Included two fuel and comfort breaks, tolls, tunnels and traffic. Didn't turn engine off for entire trip. Ignore confusion between KMs and Miles as it's a slight hiccough in software. Return trip was very similar but broken up into segments so not so informative. Max speeds were between 90-100mph with one run on clear interstate well in excess of that. More average of 70-80mph. Absolutely no issues with truck and was an absolute pleasure to drive continuously for almost 12 hours.

The poll is an interesting idea, but only half the engines are included, so a shame it is so limited.

The engines should be as a minimum:

5.0 SC V8 petrol
3.0 SC V6 petrol
3.0 i6 P400 petrol
2.0 i4 P400e petrol
4.4 V8 diesel
3.0 V6 diesel

But then there are different power outputs of these variants, some of which are material, some not. I guess this should not be a science project.

If you’re buying used, and preferring diesel, the 4.4 V8 is a no-brainier. The only reason anyone specced a TDV6 was to save money.

If you’re low mileage driver and not towing, buying used then the P400e is a better choice over the 5.0 because the P400e performance is epic (throttle response of a hot hatch, and very competitive torque levels) and the 5.0 relatively rare which limits choice. Buying new I still prefer the P400e (obviously, as that is what I bought) but the 5.0 is so close on price, towing buyers or old skoolers will prefer that V8, which is generally glorious. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... So what would an Englishman call a Range Rover? It's not a car, it's not a "ute" in the Australian sense and I am not sure its an SUV in the true sense of a jacked up station wagon.

Just an addition to my original post and in deference to a common language the mileage achieved was 23miles per US gal so in English terms that would have been 27.62 miles per English gallon which is very respectable for a fully loaded "truck" averaging 60mph over 11.5 hours with an average speed of 60+mph.

On the return trip one 4 hour segment averaged 70mph for an average of almost 30 mp (English) gallon.

My point is that the 5.0 liter Supercharged Ford V8 which I think is an almost 15 year old design does fairly well for mileage, speed and reliability and will be a pity to see it swapped out for an Ingenium / BMW alternative...my understanding is that supply agreement ends in September this year and depending on inventory and sales will be end of the 5.0 engine.

An Englishman calls a Range Rover a Range Rover, because that is what it is. There is, in the opinion of any respectable Englishman, no comparable vehicle and it does not fall into any ‘category’, it just ‘is’.

To an Englishman, a ‘truck’ is otherwise known as a heavy goods vehicle or lorry. It is not in any way, shape, or form, a luxury vehicle of any kind. It is a beast of burden used to haul life’s necessities from factory to shop.

All that said, these vehicles are admired the world over, so if an American gentleman wishes to call it a truck because that is consistent with an admiring local colloquialism, then as we say over here, ‘fill yer boots son!’
