I bought my first FFRR in 2008. It was slightly used, low mileage and immaculate. Bought from a dealer at a serious bargain price because of the market crash at the time.

Nearly new/pre-reg prices on AT seem to be softening but I fear there is more economic negativity to come before things begin to pick up. This combined with the arrival of the new FFRR model soon, surely means there have to some bargains on the horizon?

Pretty much what I was thinking. If you believe all the commentators, we are in for the mother of all recessions due to the Covid 19 virus and that can only hurt the car industry so there should be some stonking deals around soon

Having said that, I think its a bit early yet. Probably the time to get a mega deal will be in about 2 months time when half the country will be self isolating, the other half will be worried sick about their jobs and tumble weed is blowing through car showrooms

Before Corvid-19 prices on Used L405’s were ticking down steadily.

I have been following a 2013 3.0L with 55k on the clock, FSH and 1 previous owner. In November it was priced at £31,999. Today it is up for £27,999. So the market was limited for big diesel engines vehicles before Coronavirus.

I too think that in the coming months we may see dealerships, both LR franchised and independent, lowering their prices just to keep cash flow and turnover going. Some may actually end up making a loss.

I'd been intending to buy a new car this last weekend - Rockar had some pretty good deals (worked out at around £15k off a Vogue SE P400e), however have decided to put my purchase on hold for now as I'd agree that deals are likely to get stronger over the next few months as demand appears to be falling off a cliff (I'd imagine people are questioning the need to buy an expensive car right now with a potential recession looming, myself included).

There might not be a Landrover by the time this is finished. I would expect serious discounting.

Most businesses have stopped capital expenditure and private customers have also stopped spending - a lot may also have finance and no longer be able to afford it. I stopped by the British Car Auction site at Bedford today.

Only a dozen or so dealers and 6 or 7 private buyers there. No full fats but a 66 plate L494 RRS Autobiography with FLRSH, 22,000 miles and one owner went through and achieved £27,000

The auctioneer was desperately trying to get the few folk there to bid but most vehicles were either sold provisional or sold for the one and only bid offered.

Interesting days indeed......

Auctions are bit of a con. They will never sell it at 27k or 37k. They will sell it at a price that they have in mind and not less than that.

Also, what condition was it in? Re painted panel e.g. will sell for less than one with factory paint.

I do not think prices will go to a level that business will want to go in loss..that is not business anyway. What can happen is prices get stuck. Also harder to get cars on finance and lease. Dealers do not like cash buyers as they make less profit. Cash buy is always the best.

Oh and those days are gone when dealers will physically be present. Everything is online. Saves time and money. The ones that are there are tyre kickers and looking for bangers as they do not come with a report.

Rubbish! The hammer price is what a car sells for. If it doesn’t reach its reserve then the Auctioneer will say so and move on to the next lot.

I have bought over a dozen cars from the BCA auctions over the years and all have been good. Yes they may have minor cosmetic or mechanical problems but these are all declared and The condition of the vehicle assessed prior to the auction and graded 1 (ready for the forecourt) to 5 (requires major work)

Yesterday’s auction was on behalf of Blackhorse Finance, so these would have been vehicles that had been handed back or traded in at the end of a PCP or similar.

I disagree. The hammer does not fall if reserve price is not met i.e. no sale takes place.

So if the estimated value of a car is 40k, and bid does not meet the reserve price which can be 42k, sale will not take place.

Before the vultures gather on those people trying to earn a living at the dealers, near in mind that stock shortage is just as likely an outcome:
