Lighter vehicle and more aerodynamics would all help but they seem to be so much more fuel efficient there must be more to it? |

...and there’s a lower frontal area (drag = coefficient of drag x frontal area) and it’s the single turbo V6 in the Fatty vs twin turbo in the Disco. |

The most I've got on a long run is 31mpg and that was from Thurso down the A9 (50mph most of the time),and then M6/M5 doing 75/80mph.

This is very true especially when you have one with the thirst of the 5.0 But I keep an eye on it just to make sure everything is running as it should, if it was suddenly to fall into single figure mpg it would require investigation My Old Man (mid 80’s) who runs a 1.0 Hyundai returning 50+ mpg can’t understand why anybody would own a car with such dire fuel economy. |

Looks like more people have 4.4 Diesel just for the mpg yet it isn't that big a difference if price of diesel is taken in account. Plus not many will do high miles.

It all depends on the type of journey and how you drive them. We have both 4.4SDV8 and the 5.0SC in the family.
