What engine do you have

I just wondered what the breakdown is of those running 3.0 engines compared with those who opted for the 4.4?

What was the reason for choosing one over the other?

Jim

United Kingdom

you need to add the 5.0 to the poll Jim..

i choose the 3.0 for no reason really...but saying that ,the tax is cheaper and i get 35mpg round town and 40+ on a run..mines an ULEZ euro 6 compliment so London and some french cities arnt a problem for me...

i had a 4.4 in my L322 and enjoyed the extra power but i didnt use it much so because of that maybe it persuaded me to opt for the 3.0...... ... - .- -.

I now have a 2017 4.4 SDV8, as of last weekend.
Previously had the 3.0 TDV6 (2014) which was fabulous.
I have to say that, only about 10 days in, I prefer the V8 - it really feels different, if not a little more thirsty - inevitable really with two extra cylinders to feed!

I have a 5.0.

Went for the petrol because as I approach retirement it could be my last chance to own a big thirsty V8. I think days are numbered for these gas guzzlers, petrol or diesel.

Haven’t been disappointed so far, the engine is a thing of beauty, hushed limousine when required or jaw dropping clout when I go back in time to my ‘mis-spent ’ youth.

Only issue is the tank is too small, I wish I could go 400 miles between fill ups instead of 300 Whistle

I have the 3.0 as the spec and colour of the car were more important to me than the engine choice 2013 405 TDV6 Vogue SE Barolo Black

Mine is a 4.4, but would have had a 5.0 if I could have found one in the right colour combo. Never really tempted by the V6, which I’ve had in other cars, but to me a FFRR has to have 8 cylinders in a V formation

Chose the SDV8 when I got mine, one because I pull a big tin tent, and two because I love V8's, 5 litre Petrol economy scared me though. So far I've been nothing but impressed with it. Mr. Green

The SDV8 for me because:
1. I preferred the noise it made manoeuvring my test drive car around the forecourt (!).
2. I wanted the 6 pot Brembo front callipers.
3. I wanted the standard locking rear diff.
4. The body roll on the TDV6 was greater than my old D4, while the SDV8 was less.
5. The TDV6 wasn’t as nice as the SDV6 in the Disco and didn’t have the low down broad spread of power that the 8 had.
6. The 6 would have saved a lot of fuel, but the 8 drinks at a similar rate to the old D4, so I wasn’t going to lose anything.
7. It meant that I could have finally have a “Rover V8” all of my own 😁

Do all the 4.4’s have the locking rear diff RM?

Was wondering about mine, can’t see it on the 4x4 screeen. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I went 4.4 as I wanted the adaptive dynamics, and was worried about crankshaft issues on v6. Plus I bought a 1 year old car and the price difference was negligible.

A similar diesel only poll from a few years ago...
https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic43189.html

The 4.4 to 3.0 ratios were also similar to this thread. Then, opted for 3.0 TDv6 because the particular car was the best viewed of many (mileage, condition, spec, the overall deal) ... and no regrets. Next time, would buy any of the engine variants though depending on the same factors Thumbs Up

If you do your homework, whatever engine/ badge L405 opted for, you should be in for a treat... they’re all brilliant in their own way and each to their own Thumbs Up
