L322 Headlight Query

Hi all - quick question, on an 03 TD6, how many electrical plug connectors should there be connected on the back of the headlight unit?

I was afraid this might be the case. The wiring for the lights at the front has been a source of ...amusement.... so far and although everything appears to be working, I have a “check dip beam” error. When I took everything apart to see if I could find any obvious issues, it looked to me that there should be another plug connected apart from the main one. I’ve double checked today and it looks like someone has spliced the wiring and joined cables together.

I need to check a bit further, but I’m tempted to source a loom that hasn’t been tampered with and connect it all up properly and then see what’s what.

Right...I must admit, I’m a bit puzzled.

I’ve sourced a couple of looms so I can sort out what I believed was a wiring issue, however, on stripping the front end of the car down, and uncovering the tape wrap, what I see makes no sense. On the looms I sourced, there are 11 wires feeding 2 plugs. On my car, I have 4 wires feeding one plug. Donor loom on the left, bodge repair on mine to the right.

Everything else looks right, I’m going to try and uncover more of the loom just to make sure it wasn’t cut right back for whatever reason but unless a 03 plate diesel should only have these four wires then I’m at a loss.

Any ideas?

I think I agree. Having trawled some eBay listings I have found that there is a halogen headlight, with the one single connector on.

Given mine is listed as an SE, it’s likely that it really was a poverty spec and came originally with halogen only headlights.

It would also explain why the headlight wash have no connectors on the rear for water.
