I rang round various md’s and indy’s last year before I purchased the l405. Only because I owned a disco tdv6 many moons ago when they was quoting £1000 + for belt changes. At the time neither the md’s or indy’s had a clue how to price the job. It was as if the l405 was to new. Literally no one had a clue.

But Unless you know the garage well, how would you ever know if this work had been done?

Timing the fuel pump belt is well documented in the workshop manual and less technically challenging than changing the camshaft belt which if mistimed can damage valves and pistons rather than just the fuel pump not correctly providing fuel. I found that access on a 3.0 D4 to get the fuel pump timing correct was difficult but checking that the timing was correct before activating the tensioner was not difficult - I did it over and over by feel until I managed to get the timing correct. |

so is there locking tools used for rear belt? I’ve heard of people cutting the old belt around the middle to slip the new one on. How much shorter is the fuel pump belt? |

There is a special tool required to lock to HPFP in its timed position, as well as the camshaft locking tool |

I’ve spoken to an LR independent specialist and about 4 LR main dealers for quotes. Most of the main dealer service advisors didn’t seem to know what they were taking about (didn’t explain at all well what the work would entail and had to go and ask when I mentioned a second belt).

Oil pump isn't an issue on the 3.0 engines ![]() I've quoted L405/494 belts at £450 + VAT, for all 3 belts, using all OEM parts. Not sure how that compares to any other quotes you've had, but that's where I am Provided the belt has been replaced by a VAT registered garage, using OEM quality parts, extended warranty should not* reject a claim ![]() * I'd have said cannot, but with warranty companies, you never know ![]() |

Dayco, which are OEM, and exactly the same parts and quality you'd get from an LR dealer, minus the LR box (and price!)...
