Good effort, i learned very early on that the pleasure from owning these vehicles is not the driving, it is overcoming the many challenges they present you!

have you done both sides?

I find that by the time you have done the job you could do it again really quickly but hopefully you don't need to do it again.

Had this very battle today, just came on to see if there was a better way!

It was about 30 minutes for me, with these weapons of choice:

With this being the result:

Eugh, did this today on the passenger side

Got the arm off easy.

Onto the bush, one of the Torx bolts came out easy - the one to the front of the car which is harder to access rounded out. tried to drill it, then drilled a hole in the side of it and used a punch to knock it around which thankfully worked.

On to getting the bush out - heat didn't help, WD40 didn't help.

What helped was holidaychicken's tip the most was trolley jack under the front ball joint to make sure every hit from above counts, and just keep hitting it like Asda- every little helps!

Knock/drill/smash the gubbins out of the housing, helps if you remove the back of the ball joint with a punch and some Levering/wiggling......

Then the main bits of the joint can be taken out. Leaving just the outer case in place.

Then put a hack saw through the joint and saw a groove in the side of the joint through to the hub. This will then release it a mm.

It can then be knocked out a lot lot. easier There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

This job is much easier if you just remove the hub a couple of well placed hammer wacks and its out

it could be! i decided on that strategy but couldnt get the fkin strut bolts out even with a 4 ft bar. since learnt that a tig welder makes an ideal way to heat bolts to crack rust siezed bits

So the driver's side was much harder!!!!

I followed northernmonkeyjone's tip of ripping the cap off, pulled out the ball joint then hacksawed through the casing, I then put the ball joint back in sans plastic casing and hit the ball with my chisel and it fell straight out

To make matter worse the hard to reach locating bolt is seized and had to be cut off. It wouldn't drill out so off to weld a nut on to the stud today and hope for the best!!!

Hey, I've been trying for weeks to get the ball joints out of my wheel knuckle. Started with splitters and pullers which all bent and snapped. Moved to hammers, sledge hammers and chisles. Then to air hamner and then finally to jack hamner! Oblitorated the top of the ball joint and still hasnt budged a millimeter.
Eventually I conceded defeat and purchased 2 new wheel knuckles. New Ball joint fits in nicely.
So I assembled the new knuckles with new bearings, dust shield and hubs.
Went to remove the old knuckles thinking it would be a breeze now. How wrong was I. Now I cant get the CV splines out of the hubs! As with the ball joints the splines are fused in with rust. I've been hiting with sledge hammer for over 8 hrs and no movement. Just mushroomed the CV head.
So now purchased 2 new CV heads and will try to seperate the shaft from the fused head in the hub. I'm praying this will pop out with a few knocks from the hammer as they are just pop in circlips. Though not holding too much faith in this being the case based on all the other issues.
So, now in for £1000 to just change a £20 ball joint. Big Cry
I almost lost the will to live with this but decided to percivere.
In my opinion what a total cock up design by RR for ball joints and CV's.
Will feedback how it goes. I hope I dont need to but complete drive shafts Big Cry

As I said.......

Knock off the back of the ball joint with a punch, just basically smash it off.....

Then you can furtle around drill and smash the actual ball out of the casing.

Once you have the centre out put a hacksaw through the hole and cut a slot in the side of the casing.

Will then knock out. Did both of mine on my 12
Plate that way. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
