New Engine 12 months ago now regular Limp mode up gradients

After my 4.4 engine destroyed itself in October 18 I had a new engine plus new injectors and many weeks later I was back on the road. Since the new engine the car has gone into limp mode about one a month. The authorised service centre who fitted the engine did lots of checks but could not find anything and then went out of business leaving me with the problem although the new engine is under warranty I believe. The issue us easy to resolve, stop , switch off , lock car , unlock start but a pain.
After many limp mode episodes have found there is a pattern, always going up a gradient with 3/4 ish throttle It has gone 3 times up my drive which I turn left I to and accelerate , it goes into limp after about 1/4 mile which will have risen about 10m in height so we are not talking mountains (Suffolk) Also gone 3 times on a regular journey where I turn left from C road to A road and accelerate up a similar if not slightly steeper gradient than my drive on a constant 3/4 ish throttle.
Also went once from A12 to A14 up slip road and again similar gradient and throttle used.
Has anyone come across this problem or have any solution. Think it must me a sensor or ECU issue as goes on same stretches of road. My car is in for a service next Monday so any help appreciated.

Richard

Does flooring it readily trigger the fault?

No it needs to be a fairly high constant throttle held for 10-15seconds and always up a gradient, I have tried nailing it and this does not cause it to go into restricted performance.

Best I can suggest is to try to have it fault on the way to servicing and don't switch it off until the fault codes can be retrieved.

Managed to get it to fail again on road where it has failed before and capture on video which I don’t think can post here?
Constant throttle car changing gear at 3000 rpm.

Have you had the fault codes read? If not buy a GAP tool or have them read somewhere, without that information youre running round in the dark guessing BMW i3 Electric Car

Actually on 32 mile trip got to fail 4 times, a record! To get it to fail has to be hard acceleration after a stop at a junction. Stop then take off does it as well.

Happy to buy tool to read code what of attached do I need? Or something else?

Have you checked the fuel filter yet ?? Maybe to much water or crap in it. If it is a fuel filter issue, like water than the incline can cause that water to be pulled through with the fuel maybe. Not sure if there is a water drain on the filter that you can open and drain water out till the fuel starts coming through, maybe the likes of Craig can help you with that ???

I looked at the 2010-2012 Workshop manual and I can't imagine it is much different from the engine in the L405. After draining the water, the filter needs to be bled for air bubbles, what if that hasn't been done properly or after a filter change. Air bubble can be causing the fuel to stop flowing on inclines............... MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Buy the IID tool BT (blue tooth) for £399.
Then read the faults and clear and see what comes up next time it goes I to RP. It could be a number of things from split inlet manifold (£1600) to the 4 plenum pipes having a leak in one or other.

Mine (2011 tdv8) did what yours does on cruise on the M4 at a particular point. It is when a surge in power is required and the ecu doesn’t seem to like it so goes into RP.

The car was at main dealer this week and they found a fault in the turbine shutoff valve which was replaced with the engine. Replaced under warrantee 👍 let’s home this has fixed it finally.
