Hi, looking for help in deciding which type of battery my RR needs. I bought a 2009 3.6 TDV8 Vogue SE 3 years ago from a non-LR Dealer. He had fitted a new 019 AGM type battery which now needs replacing, which seems a little soon to me, and if I sit in the car with the radio on the "Low Battery" message pops up almost immediately. I have checked the charging voltage at 14.2V. When I previously took the car into my local Indie dealer for service, he said I had the wrong battery and the AGM was only introduced with the 4.4V8. Other people have said all MY2010 L322 need AGM. My car is 2009, but has LCD dash and push button start and I beleive it to be a MY2010. Loging in to totalcarcheck says it is a 2010. Can anyone tell me if there is a definitive way of knowing which type of battery my car needs. I have read many of the threads on here, and found many interesting opinions/dabates about the advantage of each, but I would just like to fit the correct battery as designed. Thanks

I have a 2010 MY 3.6 TDV8 and the battery in mine is not an AGM - it came with an EXIDE 020 ordinary battery that I replaced with a Yuasa equivalent 110a/h 900a battery just before Christmas.

I read through the battery threads on here before I replaced it and came to the conclusion that I believe my car should have had an 019 standard battery in it from the factory but the previous owner had shoehorned in the biggest capacity battery he could get; I went for the same.

Do you have Stop-Start? That's the main reason an AGM battery will be introduced. 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

I understood that the AGM battery was introduced with the digital instrument display and that these cars have a different charging software. So the earliest cars with AGM are 3.6's and do not have stop start.

I am sure cam tec craig has confirmed this in the past 2010 3.6TDV8 Stornoway Grey/ Black interior - gone
2005 4.4V8 (M62) Bonatti Grey/ Parchment interior - gone
1998 4.6HSE Blue/ Cream interior (can't remember exact colours) - gone
1977 White - gone (should have kept)

There's two types of stop/start compliant batteries. AGM & EFB.

I've used AGM in bikes before and while they're good, they don't like becoming discharged and if abused die and can't be brought back to life.

Important thing beyond the physical fit is the CCA. Cold Cranking Amps, the higher the better!

I installed an AGM in my 07 TDV8, and I'm very pleased with the result.
No issues even in very cold weather with only short drives and all heating options turned on. Including 30m Webasto pre-heating before starting.

Constant issues under these conditions with the old "regular"battery. And it wasn't even very old.
Mind you, it could have been damaged by being completely discharged by the previous owner. 2007 L322 3.6 TDV8 Stornoway

Went from a normal 020 battery that gave up the ghost after 18 months to an 019 agm.
Agm has been perfect, I will not go back to the normal battery, and forget about the bollix of intelligent charging and all that nonsense - just fit agm imo

I wasn’t aware any L322 had stop/start, so that shouldn’t be a factor.

As I understand it the 2009 facelift (3.6TD and 5.0, then the 4.4TD in 2010) which has the LCD dash included a revised charging system to address tendency to drain.

019 AGM Batteries are part of that revised charging system.

020 batteries, whether AGM or not are fitted by some owners who want a bit more capacity.
It's a very tight squeeze but they do fit.

AGM is a better battery, whether 019 or 020. More expensive but better technology.

The stop start button was included in the 2009 facelift but Stop start technology in relation to batteries means the engine stops at traffic lights and starts the engine again when you take off again. It's to save emissions and needs a specific battery because it uses the battery a lot. It came in on the 405 at some point but's not fitted to L322's so unrelated to the OP.

Wow, looks like it’s around £450 for an 020 Bosch AGM.....

Based on my previous post regarding my battery/alternator issues, I took my old battery back to ECP to swap under warranty. As luck would have it, their system was down, so I managed to get an AGM 019 for £60.

I’m still not convinced it’s fixed my problems but either way, I’ve got a nice new battery  Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
