I thought the Triumph V8 was different being OHC ? 2003 Range Rover Vogue TD6

The Triumph Stags were indeed different....and completely useless,hence the popular conversion to the Rover V8.
I believe they suffered from overheating and cooling issues from poor castings. The TR8 was the Rover 3.5V8 unit. Tony

A friend of mine who was also a good motor engineer had one & it was always having overheating issues.

Thanks for confirming that it was different.

Having said that when running well it sounded awesome. 2003 Range Rover Vogue TD6

I think the Stags V8 was essentially 2 Dolomite engines joined together. Sounds nice though.

Indeed they were and along with cooling issues that have already been mentioned, stretchy cam chains could be an issue as well.

The 3.9 and the 4.0 share exactly same number of cubic centimetres, but there's one very fundamental difference between the two. The 4.0 has larger cross bolted main bearings and is therefore a much stronger engine.
