Thanks. Gary Wood at Alive Tuning has an upper limit figure to stop the gearbox being destroyed by the extra torque. Can't remember what it is but I know the standard engine puts outs a figure not far off...hence my reluctance to get a remap and then would only use Alive.... Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Yup, I hear what you are saying and did talk to the guys at DMS about the increase in torque and the gear box.

The chap I spoke to has done this remap to quite a few 4.4TDV8's and , so far, to their knowledge non have killed a gearbox. (I guess the cynics amongst us would say " they would say that")

If things are going to break due to upgrades then driving style, I think, has to be taken into account.

I used to compete in off road events in a very heavily modified landrover, I had a very tuned 5.2 V8 in it and used to run twin lockers and 35" simex tyres. Before I switched to Ashcroft running gear everyone said I wouldn't last an event without snapping something but I managed a good while before I broke anything whilst others around me were treating CV's as a consumables.

So I guess what im saying is a little mechanical sympathy goes a long way, im not going to be tearing away from a standstill at full throttle but enjoying the mid range grunt at 40/50 mph and the extra 5 (ish) mpg.

Im happy to take a chance and see what happens....

oh, and the first thing I did break after the engine upgrades was a 50" light bar when I rolled it !!!!

Time will tell I guess but so far I'm very happy with the remap

Hi Dr Rob , my remap was a quantum one. Friend of mine is an agent for them over here. Hes done a few forum members in ireland and as far as I know they are all happy bunnies. I went for the second of the 3 maps they offer as my FFRR had already done 120k miles but I drove a 2012 Autobiography belonging to a forum member about 5 months ago after he remapped it with a Red map and it was a weapon. If anything it was a bit too quick with instant throttle response but I only drove it for a few miles, I'm sure it wouldn't have taken long to adapt to it. I see alot of people on here rate specific remappers and we can all only go on our own experience. On my 2011 he had to open the ECU download my standard map and send it to the head office who reviewed it and then sent back the updated map Thumbs Up 2015 4.4 AB

Trying to work out if the 4.4TDV8 could be done this way.

I mean at that price... !

however dolph34's Quantum remap needed the ECU physically opened up.

Can you talk us through how you got this pls TDSIX ?

. Cheers, Greg

My 2011 TDV8 needed the ecu taking out as well.
But looks like a great mod for the older tdv8’s

I think the 4.4 tdv8 needs the ecu to come out. I don't think I could would try that at home. When I had that model I was advised not to map it as the consensus was that the 'box was only rated for the current torque and any mapping could damage it prematurely..but I've since read that some guys have had no issues for many many miles.

I do know though, a 3.6 takes a right good map and safely.

I bought the KessV2 on ebay (£47). it comes with software. Plug it on the car and the laptop, extract your 'file'. Email it to a tuner (I found one on ebay), give him some cash, he'll modify it and send it back, you plug back into the car and upload the new file. It's that easy.

Noting, I have never done this before this was my first time and I managed fine. 2010 FF 4.4 TDV8 Vogue - Gone

Be careful with the bargain price Kess v2's there are a lot of copies around apparently and not unknown for them to brick ECU's. BMW i3 Electric Car

We use Quantum all the time and they are fantastic... They mapped my old 3.6 (now owned by a member on here) they have done two 4.4's of mine including my 405. They MAP the individual car NOT a generic MAP for a 4.4! Mine gets far better MPG now and it smooths out all the flat spots etc Thumbs Up

This was a custom map, not just a generic file.. I sent my file to a tuner to be custom modified, I didn’t just load in a generic map. Thumbs Up 2010 FF 4.4 TDV8 Vogue - Gone
