help needed

i hope one of you guys may know whats going on .....my n/s headlight doesnt always come on some times i have to turn the lights on and off at least ten times before it comes on ....i thought maybe its a dodgy bulb so i brought 2 new ones that i fitted today ........suprise suprise its still doing the same thing ......please any ideas are welcome "RANGEISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED"

as said , ballast [the silver box on the back] or the igniter [inside the headlight].....

its a bit fiddly but i would swap the ballsts to see if that works .. ... - .- -.

when you say igniter inside the headlight ...where inside is it ? as that sounds like it could be the problem as once its been on it will turn on easy after that "RANGEISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED"

ignore that last coment i think i know where it is now ..... i think its gonna be the igniter as my lights come on after a few goes so ill start by swapping the ballasts first see if it makes any differance ...thanks guys "RANGEISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED"

Pretlove - I had this and it was indeed the igniter. Its inside the headlamp held in with two T20 torx screws I renewed the bulbs also, in case any resistance from the bulb had caused the igniter to fail prematurely. See my post under xenon headlight components, many thanks to Reformed. The part is made by a firm called Automotive Lighting (AL)

I have the part no but its at work so I will put it on here tomorrow. I had to order it from my local autolec specialist.

To get to the igniter, you have to remove the reflector by winding the headlamp alignment screws out. I carefully marked the screw head and counted turns, then reversed the process on reassembly.I dont know if I was lucky, but when I checked it at the local MOT station, it was bob on.

thanks mate i think its definatley gonna be that so ill try and get hold of one and try that.....if you could give me the number for your auto elec as im having trouble finding a company that supply the igniter "RANGEISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED"
