So I do not pretend to be any sort of expert, as a cardiologist I am more used to fixing tickers rather than Range Rovers, but I though it would be useful to others to document my efforts to fix the dreaded - mecha error - that had me searching ebay for replacement DVD changers with eye watering results of £500 buy nows from the breakers. I don't know if there is more than one cause for "mecha error" to display on the screens when trying to play a DVD but it generally seems to be a problem with a stuck load arm either refusing to load or unload DVDs. In my case the problem started when I disconnected the battery with a DVD in - that then refused to unload and allow the mag to eject.
The steps below assume you have successfully removed your DVD unit. Obvious when you look at it -but you need to remove the 8mm nuts from the rear set entertainment unit first - tilt it forward then remove the screws holding its bracket on. You can then remove the rest of the nuts at the bottom and the two at the top that hold the DVD changer / sat nav / and blue tooth phone module as a unit. It is then simple to unscrew the 4 screw on each side of the bracket holding the DVD changer - and slide it out forwards.
Then get some silicone spray (I used one made by WD40 - not actual WD40 I stress) and follow the pcis below:

Thanks great write up, i'm having the same issues with my DVD changer.

I'm definitely not an expert as an anaesthesiologist.. but i like to tinker.

I seem to be struggling to remove the changer from the numerous brackets in the rear left compartment (boot), any Ideas?

My wife is out in the RR now so I can't take any pictures. Basically if yours is like mine the DVD player will be the lowest of a stack of 3 units, with the DVD sat nav above it and the nokia Bluetooth module at the top. All three of these are in the same cage and this needs to be removed to access the screws on the side holding the DVD player in.
The two nuts on top are easily accessible but at the bottom you need to remove the two bolts holding the rear seat entertainment module in (the long oblong unit standing vertically at the bottom right) and take its bracket off from the top before you can reach the final bolt for the DVD cage.
I will update the post with pictures when I can.

I have now printed both your descriptions and plan to send the wife (who is a orthopeic surgeon and therefore also used to following descriptions) to fix the DVD.

Our player do have a stuck DVD (does not eject, we can see that one DVD has stuck inside the player), but it does not give a Mecha Error message.

Glad I could help and glad to know there is a thriving international medical community tinkering with their Range Rovers. Please look carefully at the pictures for faint red circles. Some of the ones I added in powerpoint became v thin and nearly invisible when I converted them to JPEGs.

Sorry to bump this up but i used silicone spray but every few weeks I still get it stopping to eject and it’s dried up.

Is there a problem using traditional Castrol grease on eject mechanism? Current stable:

My changer is still working intermittent during summer, but stops working in the winter. 2006 Supercharged

So would traditional grease cause any issues on the mechanism? Current stable:

Rather than spray I would be inclined to use a light amount of silicone grease. eg. Nyogel 760 John
