Heater issue on Auto

Unless I'm going mad (quite possible!) I believe that when on Auto, the dotted lights to show the fan speed should still illuminate?

Mine seems to have stopped doing it. The fan works fine, I can turn it up and down manually, and if I select for instance Max Defrost, the fan goes on Max and all the fan dots light up. But not on auto. The fan still seems to be working although perhaps not as much as I would expect (on auto), i.e. its blowing but gently, although as above, I can override that on manual.

Any ideas what this could be? I checked the little grille for the temperature sensor and that seems clean.

Thanks. 5.0 S/C Autobiography - now gone to pastures new....

When On auto none of the dotted lights will be lit up.

Only of auto and when you manually adjust will any of the dots light up.

Oh and with regards to your gentle blowing. If the cabin is near to or up to tempreture then all the climate has to do is keep it there and the blowing will be subtle and gentle. It will continuously adjust speed and which vents the air comes from to maintain the set cabin temperature.

Only when the engine is cold or the car has been sat for hours and then started will the blowers be noisy and fast. Regards

Daz

Thanks Daz, that's one less thing to worry about then! Very Happy

This is my second L322 and I was convinced that the dots lit up on Auto - like I said, must be going mad! 5.0 S/C Autobiography - now gone to pastures new....

My 2009 lights up on auto. Mine is a pre-facelift.

Oh, and to test if auto is working, just turn both temp dials either max down or max up. The fan should soon start working hard.

Mine runs at 2-3 dots all the time. 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

2011, no dots when on AUTO and both dot & line are lit, maybe there is a semi auto and full auto mode?
My 2007 Freelander also shows no dots when on AUTO

If I remember right, on the earlier cats you could have manual fan speed and auto everything else.....or similar. You press Auto again and it goes back to full auto.

I recon lights are on and it’s all auto....but if you move fan or distribution, their respective lights go out...

Thoroughly confused now! Mine's a facelift so it seems ike maybe the lights shouldn't be on when on Auto. Other thing is, the fan is running but it doesn't blow hard, not even when I put the temp on min or max. 7am this morning, -3 on the dash, and at 24 degrees it just puffs gently. Got warm enough but didn't try hard!

So I wonder if there is something up after all? 5.0 S/C Autobiography - now gone to pastures new....

Irrespective of any setting, if you turn the fan up manually using the knob, the fan should increase.....end of.....

If it was in Auto mode, manually changing fan speed will override it.....and fan speed will now be manual.

Does your fan go full speed when you press the Max Defrost button?

2006MY should have dots lit on fan control according to fan speed so you've defo a fault.

Can you read fault codes to see what it throws up as there's a number of possible causes ranging from the HVAC ecu, FSR (less likely), Switch controls and temp valves/sensors.

The electric blower motor speed is controlled by the ATC ECU via an outlet voltage amplifier (FSR) installed in the outlet of the right hand fan. The ATC ECU outputs a stepped control voltage between 0 and 8v to the FSR which regulates the battery feed to the blower via the fusebox. As you can operate the fans manually it would (to me) indicate a possible signal loss from the ECU or a fault in the switch panel itself. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable or experienced will pop along with a better answer but fault codes would help

It does run fast when I manually dial it up. I *think* it does for max defrost but I'll check tomorrow. 5.0 S/C Autobiography - now gone to pastures new....

Just reread your query, apologies, above when I was talking about lights I meant the ones in the Auto button. I see what you mean now.

I’m not sure if the dotted fan speed lights come on when it speeds up and down when it’s in Auto. I can’t remember what mine do.

I’m pretty sure when you press Max Defrost they do....

Don’t forget that when you first start up, if you have heater set at warm, it won’t blow lots as the water temp isn’t up enough to blow the warm air you requested, so it won’t blow till the air can meet your temperature requirements....well, not in Auto anyway....
