That is a very good question, I couldn't find Non Continuous Soot Mass in any of my readings but that may be because it's a L405 I did check a few boxes and came up with these settings so as you can see I haven't got a clue how much soot I have

Rob, I'm running on IOS, I got in touch with Pat at IID and he told me to update the firmware on the IID tool, once this was done I could see all the untested values. I had to make sure the tool was updated to build 2624 but that was last September so it may have updated again since then. If you get stuck, get in touch with Pat, he virtually talked me through how to make sure I had the right firmware on the tool and they can tell at their end when it's right. Yesterday I decided to take the FFRR out for a drive to top up with fuel and collect some bits from B&Q. On the way to the fuel station I got the yellow DPF warning but had less than a quarter of a tank so knew it wouldn't do a regen at that point, besides, I was in start stop traffic too so that wouldn't have helped either. Decided that once I had the fuel on board and collected my bits from B&Q to head out on to the M6 and drive for around 30 mins to clear the DPF message. This didn't go as I expected, took the first run and after 30 mins the light was still showing so decided to pull of the motorway and take a look at the forum just to check I was doing things right. Read a few posts and saw a suggestion that I should drop into sports mode and keep the revs above 2,000 to generate extra heat. Back on the motorway, revs at around 2,500 in 5th for 30 mins and the warning message was still there. Once again pulled off the motorway and this time left the car for an hour and took a walk around the local area. Back in the car and back on the motorway, another 30 mins driving this time just in D and still no sign of the warning disappearing. By this time I just resigned myself to the fact it wasn't going to happen so came off at the next junction, turned round and headed home. Ironically, whilst sitting at a set of traffic lights the light finally went off. So today I get in the car because I'm dropping it off at my local indy after work. Drive for around 20 mins along rural roads so doing speeds between 30 & 60 with no traffic. Get to the town centre, and from nowhere I get the red DPF full message followed by a mass cloud of smoke coming out the back. No message of restricted performance but I can now only get to about 30 and it feels like I'm pulling away in 3rd gear, so I suspect it's in limp home mode. Just hoping I can get to my indy now which is about 20 miles away. What I don't understand is why after completing a regen yesterday did it go straight to a RED today. Waht could possibly build soot up that quickly? I have the upgraded plenum hoses so it's not that, and why the mass cloud of smoke from the exhaust? Anyone any ideas? |

Hi, Range Rover L322 thanks for the reply. It did seem odd to me that it took so long to do a simple regen from an amber. What you say about the soot level dropping just enough to turn it off would make sense. I suspect as you say that there is a leak somewhere that is causing the soot to build up too quickly. My indy is a good garage who looks after my Freelander 2 and has always been spot on with stuff so hopefully he can work some magic. I have read so many stories on here about the DPF warnings coming on and was feeling pleased that I had yet to experience it so after yesterdays fiasco and then this mornings warning I naturally began to fear the worst. Knocked my confidence in the car if I'm honest but your words of encouragement have given me some hope. Will let you know what my indy finds once he takes a look at it, hopefully something not too expensive to fix.

You May not need to go to a dealer to regen. I got the same symptoms as you, no yellow light, straight to red and limp mode. I bought an IID tool and checked the live values. I had a “high” level of diesel in oil (reading of 12) I had an oil change done and reset the service indicator (are you due a service? I suspect so) it regened on its own on the next motorway run and I have had no lights or probs since.

Hi dolphinboy, yes definitely due a service which was why I was taking it to my Indy after work. Not sure when one was last carried out so booked it in for a full service just to be sure. Managed to get to my Indy using the paddle shifters which helped me get up to 50mph until I reached any incline where the speed scrubbed off, much to the annoyance of the people behind me. When I dropped it off the first thing my Indy said was that it wouldn’t be the DPF but something else so I just have to wait now and see what he comes back with. Will keep you all posted |
