Damper Replacement

I'm contemplating replacing my dampers on my range rover 4.4 tdv8 vogue (2011) . She has 96 k up and drives really well . I had an advisory on my mot that the rear dampers had a slight weep ( a common fault I believe) .

I'm not adverse to spending on her , I always over maintain to keep her tip top .

My question is this. Do I replace front and rear dampers , fronts with their airbag complete or replace rear dampers and rebuild my front units ? These are variable damping units and are on the expensive side Shocked

I can spanner these myself so labour is not a problem.........

Anyone found these units at a good price or discounted ?

Your thoughts please boys and girls .

Kind regards,

Cozzy.

Been there, there isn’t a cheap option sadly, stick with the rears only, very common actually, one of mine went just before a caravan holiday, couldn’t believe the price but that’s life, very quick to fit though , 3 top bolts, one at the bottom , have a gander here : https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic28287...+absorbers
Maybe worth soaking the bottom bolt with wd before doing the job .

Hi Mr Tee .

Thank you for your speedy reply ! I hear what you are saying......its not going to be a cheap exercise Big Cry .

When I had a good look under the car, I noticed one of the front airbags was a little perished in places hence my thinking replace the whole units (legs) or rebuild the fronts with new bags .

The rears will be replaced as I think they will all probably be a bit tired by now .

Best wishes,

Cozzy

i just replaced a rear one as part of an excercise to eliminate a thud noise. it wasn't the damper and the one i removed (105k miles) felt exactly the same as the new one when manually operated and also when it was still on the car. i'd have no hesitation at re-using the old one .

best price i could find was island 4x4 for bilstein.

my findings are that suspension bushes / links are more of an issue than dampers and replacing rear lower wishbones made a significant improvement so likely will be well past thier best on your car too

BTW - the old one is currently listed for sale on here
