United Kingdom 2010 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Stornoway Grey

Is it a big job to get to the sump. The local indy was saying it's a big job and takes alot.of time so he cant do it straight away..I could wait for him to save some money for a couple of weeks or let land rover have a look, diagnose and then repair..???

Not sure ------------------------------------------------------

I think it is.

You probably want to do the oil drain mod (turbo #2) if you haven't had it done at the same time.

I am thinking a lot of stuff (like the front diff) have to come off for both jobs.

Is Green Oval Garage far from you?

. Cheers, Greg

BTW I do think you should speak to somebody like Green Oval, you need people who are not only versed in Range Rovers but the 4.4TDV8. It's not the driest of engines, oil seals here and there can go. I've got an as yet unfound oil leak which is dripping down onto the skid tray but it's not the sump. I think second opinion / investigation would be warrantded.

. Cheers, Greg

So landrover ring me up today after doing a diagnostic and they seem to think it's the oil pump itself that's leaking and they quoted me over £3k to have this sorted. After some discount they got the price down to £2600.

Claim to be a 3 day job?

I dont see why but what are your thoughts. Price seems very expensive. ------------------------------------------------------

Looking at the job description in the workshop manual PDF it’s a full front end strip down job, belts pulleys, fan etc, just to get to it.
Get a quote from Green Oval, bound to be cheaper than JLR .

I would not trust a main dealer these days full stop. Independent specialists have a vested interest to be the best and retain / be referred customers. I am taking mine over an hours drive away in Reading to have Rovertune's opinion on something. I would not go anywhere nr local main dealers Censored Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Just heard back from Brian @ Green Oval Garage. Top Bloke.

Have to say, very good advice over the phone. Much better than the main dealers. Explained there is so much process in replacing the Oil Pump and the Sump. Both would require Subframe removal, suspension and complete front end. This would also mean having to replace oil filter and oil, get tracking done, get air con regassed etc etc.

Also said he would have a look to make sure as a second opinion as the Dealers video was not very clear.

Have booked in with him in a few weeks time. See how it goes. ------------------------------------------------------

Update from Brian at the Green Oval Garage

He seems to think the leak is coming from the CamShaft Seal and has supplied me with the following pics before and after a 60mile run.

I have to say, these guys are amazing compared to Land Rover Dealers. Much more indepth analasys and evidence. Cant see the dealers driving the car for 60 miles etc.

Just want to say thanks to those who recomended Green Oval. Just waiting for replacement parts and then for them to check again to see if the leak has been cured. ------------------------------------------------------
