How to check soot level (g) TDV8 using a iiD tool

After reading many threads in this great forum, I tried to check what level my car is at, but so far no luck.

I've bought a iiD tool BT, update with the latest firmware.

In live values I only see two options that mention soot, one says DPF filter soot concentration : it reads 0 .

the other, says soot level in oil : N/A ;

what am I doing wrong ?

You need to go to look at live values, then engine then highlight the field (diesel particulate filter soot concentration) you want and then click lower left to view (bottom right in my picture)

thank you for your replies, today, after some motorway driving, when I arrived home I connect the iid tool, and this is what I got

according to this the DPF is completely clean !

is it suppose to be that low, or is there something wrong with this picture.

Also something that bothers me , is the voltage is always very low, 12,7 has you can see on the picture, while Dolphinboy's image is showing 14,7, much higher. I wouldn't expect that much, but at least well inside the 13 v range.

I believe the Soot in Oil is not populated so you can ignore that. The DPF filter soot concentration however is never Zero - that's very odd. Do you have the latest update from GAP on your IIDTool?... Perhaps your DPF has been bypassed - this would be a first on here. Be aware bypassing or deleting a DPF on a car that came with a DPF can get you in trouble, although no-one's quite sure how anyone could tell it's been done.

It is such a monumental can of worms getting into the whole DPF issue, that if you are not getting Yellow DPF Full Warning Lights on your dashboard this is an issue it is best to leave alone.

If, however, you insist on investigating you want to get "Number of Demanded Regens up" and the "Exhaust Gas Temps" - there are 4 x EGT sensors .. the most important is "Exhaust Gas Temp - Bank 1 - Sensor 2". Watch that sucker fly up to 650ÂșC when it demands a regen.... that will help you start figuring out what is going on, although, again, this is something that you are better putting down to Magic and Wizardry than investigating. DPF is a Dark Art; there is some funky Factory ECU programming involved that is highly misleading.

Thank you for you advice, I'm starting to think that this car is best left alone, but I'm used to do preventive maintenance in all my previous machines, never having a major failure before, maybe because of that or simple luck.

I will check the data you said, woulnd't be surprised at all if the DPF has been removed. I've got a one year warranty from the dealer that sold the car, how can I be sure the DPF is there or not , so that i can complain with the salesman ?

Worth checking under the car to see if you have a DPF.

I had the same thing when checking the soot levels with the IID.

I then found out I didn't have a DPF fitted, apparently up to 2011
buyers had the option of whether to have one fitted or not.

I was glad to see that option had not been ticked

I thought DPFs were mandatory since 2009... but I could well be wrong.

Firstly if the DPF has been bypassed you wont be able to tell unless maybe with a borescope.
Secondly - neither will the MOT inspector be able to tell! -

Thirdly - ignorance is bliss. If you do not know the DPF is not there and you did not remove it you have a strong case that its absence is not your fault. However if you know you are running a car that by law is supposed to have a DPF and you have not re-instated it you could be culpable...

Fourthly. If someone has deleted your DPF and re-programmed the ECU, re-instating it will be a pain in the ass.

Fifthly, if our friend above is right that DPF's were an option, happy days!!

I hear you about doing preventative maintenance. It's my preference too, however I have learned that Range Rovers are best run with a "if it isn't broken don't fix it" mentality for the complicated bits as they are mostly Factory Manufactured from Cans of Worms... stick to Waxoyling and replacing the gas struts!

Incidentally, if it matters, I know it is not particularly environmentally friendly but there are a few owners out there who wish they didn't have a DPF...

If you have DPF you will have a canister in each exhaust one either side of the auto box with a temp sensor in the pipe before it and after it. Can't miss them. Previously a 2008MY Tonga Green Vogue SE 3.6 TDV8

Nick591 makes a good distinction - I think he is referring to a 3.6 TDV8 with 2x DPF boxes?

I am talking about the 4.4 TDV8 which has only 1 DPF box Drivers side just aft of the drivers door.

I didn't noticed any sensors around those two boxes.

On the first picture, there's a box only on the right side of the engine, and when the two sides meet, there's this little one of the second picture !

What do you guys think ?

With DPF fitted and without DPF fitted.
