2012 L322 security / steering wheel lock

Hello everyone, I have to spend some time in London. Range Rovers repeatedly mentioned as amongst the most stolen cars - does anyone know if they are referring to our L322 or the more recent keyless entry models?

Can anyone recommend a steering wheel lock or other security device / procedure?

I am thinking about this one..

Many thanks, all opinions and advice welcomed

I’m in the West End, mine is street parked.

322’s don’t have keyless entry so not prone to the latest keyless theft - nor as valuable as 405’s

If I had a 405 I’d put a steering lock on it.

If it makes you feel better get one, its not needed IMO.

Depends where in London too.

. Cheers, Greg

I don't wish to dampen your fire, but any serious car thief would laugh at that steering lock.I'm not been patronising so please don't take this to heart.
I would guess they could disarm that in 5 seconds flat, it's a visual deterrent to the 'street rat' that spies a nice RR in his area, to the professional car thief it's just an inconvenience.
How do you protect your RR....I'm not sure to be honest.
The old saying is "if they want it, they'll take it". I've just put a tracker on mine [Direct Line insistence!] wasn't over the top price wise, so if she does get nabbed, it shouldn't be too difficult to find her. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

I hear you Fox 889.

The reason I was looking at the Stoplock Pro is it came out as AutoExpress' best lock after some reasonable testing with a hammer, chisel, pry bar, drill and angle grinder as below.

I figured if a well established publication like that recommended a product as "the best available" it might be worthwhile...

I have a big DiskLock from my Defender that covers the whole steering wheel, and supposedly came out very well in the tests. I still sometimes use it on my L322 in London if I'm away for a while, but admittedly not everyday, as I do think the L322's locks and security systems are significantly better than the Defender. It can of course be defeated, but if parking in a vaguely public area (which presumably you would be in London), I think the tools/noise/extra time needed to defeat the DIskLock would hopefully put most off, and they'd go for an easier target.

But in general, think the major issues (and all the headlines) started with the L405's keyless entry which at least initially was very prone to theft!

This is somewhat key - in lots of areas it will be one of the cheapest cars on the street. In lots of others it's nothing special.

I view those things pretty much the same as locking wheel nuts - way way more troublesome for the legitimate owner than any competent thief.

I think you'd be better of with a simple immobiliser! Do a discrete install and that would stop most opportunist thieves! They would just walk off to the next one in the next street!

Thumbs Up

Hi Craig great point - yes I considered this, and my Dad put an isolator switch on his L405 (which has been stolen and recovered thanks to a tracker!).

My concern with an immobiliser/isolator is the nature of the battery sensors which do some slightly odd things when the voltage changes or isn't constant. I'm sure it can be ironed out but I'm of the opinion that messing with anything L322 that is working can be a gigantic can of worms...
