So just an update on this and especially the oil leak comment.

Since doing the boots I have done about 1200 miles mainly motorway and not had the burining oil smell. So yesterday I did the transmission fluid and filter change and whilst I was under dropped the front tray.

Whilst there are signs of historic oil in the main is was pretty dry and no new oil.

My prognosis is that the boot split very soons after or at the same time I refitted it after doing the oil cooler seals etc. Whilst it wasn't bad enough to trigger the restricted performance fault the boot was leaking small amounts of oil/gunk ( the normal stuff you get inside the intake) which was dribbling down and causing the smell.

Since replacing the boots the leak/smell has gone Thumbs Up

Two of the intake boots on mine look suspect and non-original and I've had the restricted performance warning pop up (only once, it's gone away now and there was no noticeable loss of performance) so planning on changing all four.

Anyone have any guides to removal of the intake manifold or is it fairly straightforward and obvious once you get into it? I'm fairly handy with the spanners so not worried on that account, however if it's a pain in the proverbial to do then I might just pass the parts to my local indy and get them to fit them. Drives:

It's a fairly straightforward job with a few things to be careful of.

Remove the pollen filter housing at the rear of the engine compartment, two 14mm AF nuts and it slides forward.
Be careful of the small hose branch on the cooling pipe near the rad.

Other than that elec. connections are a little fidly.

There's also lots of threads on the changeout, and it may help to clean the inlet plenum and all sensors in there.

It’s a dirty job, but you will do a better cleaning out job than most garages.

and while you're in there, have a look at the oil pipe connection at the back of the block. Known point for leaks and may be well worth your while replacing the O rings on it. Some good threads and a search for TDV8 oil leak will let you see the area. The size and supplier info for the rings are around on here too. Cheers

The oil pipe connections should all be ok, the car had loads of work carried out not that long before we bought it and one of the things itemised on the invoice is a replacement oil cooler and the oil feed pipe. I'll still check mind! Drives:

One other interesting thing is that since replacing the boots my fuel consumption has decreased noticeably. I do mainly motorway miles and since purchase it always did about 28mpg which was a bit disappointing.

Since doing the boots on similar journeys I am getting 30mpg and occasionally 31 Very Happy

It does make me wonder if the boot had actually been split for ages just not bad enough to trigger any faults.......

Hi all, I have an issue with intermittent limp mode, been into garage and had numerous things done but it hasn’t sorted the issue. I have replaced the boost pressure sensor. But still getting the code P0235 turbo charger/super charger boost pressure sensor circuit a fault. I have been and bought some of the silicone hose to cut down, how easy is it to change them! Hope if this might fix my problem.
