What is it that can be damaged by them just being pushed back, surely in normal use they move in and out. letters not necessarily in the right order

The EPB uses an electric motor to extend the piston (note 405's dont use shoes like on other LR models) thus pushing the pads to the disc. I don't know if it is a direct mechanical linkage or pumps up the hydraulic pressure then clamps it off - but either way - if you use excessive force to push back the piston without having put them in service mode - something is going to break and it aint gonna be cheap! Laughing

I thought the EPB operated on separate shoes inside the disk. totally different from the calliper. letters not necessarily in the right order

A few questions:

Did you need to do any parking brake calibration after the job?
Did you do a brake flush? If yes, is it standard procedure or different to normal procedure?
What is the size of the 12 point bolt on back of the caliper?

If you are removing the carrier bracket IE to change the discs then the bolt is a "e24" external torx and with a conventional socket or spanner you will need extra leverage as its mega tight . Get one of these and its easy.

Ok I did not know this not I have the e24 torx tool. I thought 12 point socket is needed.
So what other tools are needed?

Two bolts are holding the caliper bracket like you said with e24. What are the size of the two that hold the caliper?

Can anyone advise the best pads to use please. I do have an extended warranty so imagine I should only use genuine LR parts?

However are there better alternatives price and quality wise? 718 GT4

NO NO NO NO NO! DO NOT use Brembo from ECP! They are the cheapest rubbish quality no named brake pads from China in a nice shiny red Brembo branded box!

The Brembo branding can be used by anyone making brake pads for a Brembo equipt car! The ECP ones are the cheapest quality TAT i have ever seen!

If you want cheap end pads, use Pagid! BUT!!! i personally would ONLY use Genuine from Dan @ Duckworths... Especially if you have extended warranty!

Having been told by my main dealer that front and rear pads need changing (mileage 24K) I would like to ask how reliable the wear sensors are? 718 GT4

Get a second opinion; my Essex dealer told me I needed all round pads.£900.00 I just wasn’t so sure, and double checked with two others. rears are at 3mm and need doing... I’m told 2MM is as low as u want to go
Fronts are ok although there MIGHT be an argument for just doing the whole lot together

On that basis I’m using an alternative shop for the first time , a good reputation ; rear pads £150 fitted. Ferodo Brand. Which I hope are ok???

Bill Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

No sensor wear /lights , just an advisory at the service.
I’m 2016 but shouldn’t be any difference in prices,
DS AUTOMOTIVE Progress road Leigh on sea, not that convenient for me, I’m just a bit annoyed with the main dealer. I’m going in Monday So will know if my annoyance is justified or not & so can let u know how I get on.

I’m expecting to be asked for a few quid extra for sensors if they are difficult to remove or similar (update , sensors included)

NO REAL IDEA about Ferodo pads for quality- anyone???
