Apple car play

When I had apple car play recently installed, I allowed it to always use this when connected by cable. However, this means that the phone is only charging when Apple car play is then running. So, how does one on the FFRR disable Apple car play on connecting the lead, so that one has to manually launch it?
Thanks

You can turn it off at the phone.

Thanks. Rather than going through the iPhone menu to deselect car play whilst driving, I was wondering how to stop car play running on screen and returning to the FFRR home screen in order to utilise another source.

I did briefly try that today, asking it to play the radio, but it didn’t dislodge car play. I’ll try it again tomorrow with some other commands.
I think what I need to do is to get back to the original screen where it asked if I wanted to use car play as the default player and deselect this.
Thanks!

This should be selectable in the settings menu, under "Connectivity" > "Apple Device Settings"

I did try this as a similar suggestion was posted on a merc forum. What then occurs, unless I’ve done this incorrectly, is that it requests you to plug in a suitable Apple device, which I did - the iPhone - and then car play loads up but then bar unplugging it there are no changes that can be done .

However, I did use voice control navigation command and that brought up the home screen! Car play was still playing in the background.

From the CarPlay home screen the Landrover icon should take you back to the 'normal' InControl home screen.

To change the settings for what happens when the iPhone is plugged in, it needs to be already connected. This is in part due to the way the software handles settings for multiple phones and is able to have different settings for each one.

Perfect thanks. Never occurred to me that the LR button would return the home screen.

I'm thinking of changing my phone as I find Apple Carplay is so unstable.

Is it because my iPhone is not recognising the car wifi? Sometimes the Wifi won't connect properly, e.g the "R12345" wifi number on the phone keeps asking for a Password and won't connect automatically.

Sometimes I get Google maps and sometimes just a blank screen with an arrow and Waze just doesn't load properly. Apple Music will play ok but won't show listings of albums/ songs/ artists.

How does Android Auto compare? All LR cars from 1984

Apple CarPlay is actaully much better than Android Auto. The phone is not the issue, it's the software. The software on your iPhone might need to be updated along with updating the CarPlay app that's on your infotainment screen. I'm using CarPlay on an aftermarket Android unit and it's working great. However, there were a few software updates that had to be made before it was stable. Ray

It's all ok now.

The problem was the car software which has now been sorted by the dealer, together with a new MCU unit which was not recognising the simcard etc All LR cars from 1984

Latest updates to Apple CarPlay have made quite a difference. It works every time now and actually looks pretty good on the screen. I can’t see sat nav directions on the HUD but I even hear that that is coming soon. 2024 Range Rover P550e AB

Did the latest IOS update on my iPhone overnight and the carplay layout on the car screen is much better this morning.

Yes, the new layout is excellent with all the artwork for Apple Music and the opening screen is very good. Took me a while to figure out how to get back to the music track playing after scrolling through the Library etc though!! All LR cars from 1984
