United Kingdom 2017 Range Rover Vogue SE SDV8 Carpathian Grey

I bought a MY17 TDV8 Vogue SE from a LR dealer last week, great car and really pleased with it.

However, likewise I’m also having issues with the SIM card not being recognised. WiFi connects fine so no problem there, the SIM card will work fine in an iPad but not in the car.

So, booked into the dealer on Tuesday to see what’s up...

Have u got CarPlay installed? Tell them ur console is slow and they should upgrade for u free.

This is the big secret to my17 in my view that u can upgrade to CarPlay. I never used voice control before with previous rr but now use all the time.

I’m not familiar with CarPlay so have had a quick read up on it. Looks like it’s not wireless so needs to be connected to the phone via a lightning lead, correct? Likewise I’ve seldom used the Siri voice control, maybe I’ve been missing out!

Thanks for the suggestion.

yes you connect your phone via lightening cable.

(update allows android car also). I never used the JLR voice control 'say what you see' but siri works so well and in the car is brilliant to voice control phone people, read messages, send texts, read and set reminders, navigate, use waze navigation, 'navigate to X using waze'.

Apple Carplay and Android only work with 19A update or later so as long as you have that installed you'll be ok. Find out which version you have by going on Settings/All settings/Connectivity/ Software.

UKandrew is correct it works really well with voice on all the Apple Carplay satnavs (Google Maps, Wazw etc.) as well as the generic Siri.

Wireless Carplay is only on BMW cars but should be on the next LR, (2021?) or maybe they'll include it in an update..... but don't hold yer breath!! Whistle All LR cars from 1984

I must have the older version as there’s no software information within the Connectivity menu, only Hotspot/WiFi or Mobile Data.

I’ll let you know how I get on tomorrow with the dealer.
Cheers

yes that's fine - if you have the sim card slot you should be fine to upgrade. I didn't have that info before the upgrade either.

they wanted £200 to do upgrade but it should be a free patch under warranty - if you tell them is running slow they should update for you free.

Just as an update regarding the Sim issue, the car went into the dealer today and the sim card reader was found to be faulty and was therefore replaced.
Can now receive live traffic updates via 3G on the standard Land Rover sat nav, problem solved!

I also discussed the Apple CarPlay idea, this would be a £240 optional upgrade and about 2 hours work as their internet is rather slow. I may go for this at some stage but am happy with the standard LR package for now. This may be a complementary upgrade if a fault is found with the audio...

Cheers

As of last week 19B software level was released, which includes smartphone pack as standard. So should be no charge now! Just make sure you have a complaint, Bluetooth connection, slow system etc

i got it free but for me it would be worth the £240 if i had to pay it - such a killer feature.

did a short run tonight and used the apple car play three or four times in 15 mins to play music, call someone, etc --
