Not starting

So a few weeks ago had a problem with the car not starting after about 4 hours towing the tin tent stopped for a break, Foot on brake press button no turn over just click? When it did start after a number of times pushing button started every time?
So thought it was the battery? Changed it, Thought it was the starter? changed it, It only seems to happen after 3/4 hours towing the Tin tent when the car is hot?
Has anyone else had this or know about it?
Any points where to go to would help? I did look on my IID tool and only can see a DPF filter near full.

IID show any other fault codes?
The workshop manual in the Wiki has an error code section (it's long!) Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"
2025MY Defender D350 90 in Silicon Silver on coils
1974 Series 3 Lightweight = "Millie"
Many, many other Landies over the years

Fuel pump? Should be a 2 minute job to rule out

If you're just getting a click after replacing both the battery and the starter, then i'd be looking at the heavy duty cable that supplies the starter from the battery.

It's possible that the cable is suffering during hot running and opening up thus stopping sufficient juice reaching the starter.

If it was the fuel pump, it would turn over but not fire up.

Hi, mpirie, That sounds more like what I am looking for as I have no problem when cold or short runs, I agree pump would only be if it would not fire but turn over all I get is a click? after it cools down it starts.

When my fuel pump went it didn't try to turn over, as I say, a 2 minute job to check

I remember reading someone had a problem with the cable from the battery to the starter. It is several sections and had a bad connection from the starter relay from memory?

I replaced mine on my 2007 last year bought the whole harness as had a similar issue with my p38 and it was corrosion inside the cable and when hot just not delivering enough - on the p38 bought a premed from auto factors and just put it in as well as original

Tinman, have a search for "4.4 tdv8 starter".

There's a thread that Mike (baltic blue) mentioned and there's comment on replacing the starter cable.
