These m62 engine run x2 fuel pumps start checking the fuel pump relays etc low fuel pressure will mess things right up. A dean vanos will still allow the engine to run thats why i think thats not your issue. These engines are pretty decent

thanks for your comments
i believe the fuel pressure is supposed to be 3.5bar
the fuel pressure on my car is 3.5 bar/52 lb when running
when the engine is switched off, it sits on 3.1 bar/45lb
when driving at say70km/hr and i put my foot down, the front of the car lifts up and goes like a rocket RR 2005 4.4 petrol

The last rover mob i went to, who wouldn’t touch these engines, sent me to another rover mob
They said, they know what they are doing with these engines as they do them all the time.
So
They are a big mob, I don’t know how many hoists they had as I couldn’t see properly to count them.
They said they would put there scanner on my rover, so a few days later I took it in.
I had told them what I had done to it
They scanned it and said the results are very confusing, amongst other things, they said its saying the camshaft timing is out.
“I said the camshaft timing set up, is only as good as the guy who is setting it up and the timing tool, which I bought off EBay
What sort of timing tool have you got?”
He said “we don’t have one, we won’t touch these, we send them out” RR 2005 4.4 petrol

thanks for asking
the last mob i went to never charged me, they recommended another mob who they said had better testing equipment.
the guy said he would spend an hour on it and we would talk about what he had found.
he said he spent four hours on it, he charged me for two.
he did find that there was no compression on no one cylinder but could not find any thing wrong relating to the camshaft timing ore other problems
i have long suspected that i might have bent the exhaust valves on number one cylinder when i was trying to undo the camshaft bolt when i was doing the timing chains.
i did start to make a compression tester but there was always some thing else to do and never got it finished.
i have taken the head off and looking in to the exhaust port, i can see daylight where the valves should be sitting.
i have ordered most of the parts, most of the parts are not available here in Australia and they arrived last Friday
i have to order the O rings, i cant find them on the net
as for the camshaft timing being out, as i pulled it down, i did check the timing with my timing tools and it was correct, so i borrowed a timing tool set from a garage who specialize in BMW and i checked with theirs, it too showed the timing to be correct
SO, thats where i am RR 2005 4.4 petrol

well, i have got it back in one piece
over the last few days i have done 500km
no engine warning lights, so the camshaft must be ok,
the camshaft problem has been a real worry to me, i couldn't find out what was wrong and the experts with there diagnostic devices couldn't come up with any thing.
i relay had to drive my self to put it back together because i had no confidence that it would be ok when finished
on the highway i am getting 9.3 l/100 km at 80 km/h
short runs 16.5 l/100 km
i thought it would be more than that, so i am pleasantly surprised
thanks to all the folks that followed my thread and thanks for your advice and encouragement.
it worth remembering, when i first asked questions in this group, i think the first question was, what sort of engine have i got,
i didnt have a clue
thanks RR 2005 4.4 petrol
