Retrofitting 2011 seats to a 2003 L322

Hi, My neighbour got a lovely set of seats from a 2011 L322 from a member on here, and Is freaking out over the wiring side of things. Pretty sure I have got a handle on it, but got a worry, the airbags in the seats, will the airbags in the seats be compatible with the 2003 airbag ecu?

Also does anyone have a wiring diagram for the seats of the 03 and the 11 please? I have looked through the rave, and no wiring diagrams are visible to me.

If none are available I guess it will be a case of spending a weekend tracing the wires.

If my neighbour gives up on the idea, I hope to take on the project in mine.

Cheers.

The wiring diagrams are there in my copy of RAVE (for my 2003 model).

Look under SEATS. There are 10 pages of diagrams but only 9 refer to the front seats (of different versions)

Wiring aside - the 2011 seats have different mounting points to the vehicle than the 2003 seats

Has all that side already been figured out ?

THen there’s trying to get a Ford seat to talk to BMW controls - good luck with that Whistle

There is a way Matt Stephenson has done it BUT you have to take both seats apart and transfer all the leather over to the old seats and make a few new swabs and stitch leather its a huge huge task _____________________________________________________

So it sounds like the proposal is keep the existing seat mountings & electronics & use the materials from the newer seats.

I’d have thought it easier to simply sell the seats & have an automotive upholsterer fix up the old seats as required......

The top of the later seats have the airbags in too. Though you prob know that already.

Thumbs Up

Ah... just read your post again.....

I’d use the existing airbags in the pillars of the car and forget the ones in the later seats.

Not sure how the detector for someone sat in the seat is wired. Maybe you can keep the BMW based one. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Oh Censored

My neighbour has already installed the rear seats, and neither of us knew how in depth the install would be. Thank you for all the information. I think the seats may be coming up for swaps for a set of cream early seats Rolling with laughter

The early ones are more comfortable and wear better.

They are more adjustable near the shoulders as they don’t have air bags in.

He already sussed the comfort, but liked the colour. He currently has dark grey seats, but wants the cream seats.
