Bizarre amp issue

Hi everyone, hope you're all good.

First time posting, so I apologise if I've missed anything I need to do. Wondering if anyone has heard of or seen this issue before? I've searched many forums, but it doesn't seem this has been covered specifically.

I have a 2003 Range Rover Vogue L322, and recently the radio stopped working. When the car was turned on, 9 beeps sounded that I hadn't heard before. Low and behold, water had got into the left area in the boot where the amp is. I disconnected everything, cleaned and dried it all, still didn't work. Took everything to bits, cleaned all the parts with flux cleaner/remover, put it all back together, still the same beeping and no radio. It seemed like the radio and computer etc were still working, so narrowed the issues down to the amp.

I found a replacement amp on eBay for quite cheap so thought I'd try it out: https://ebay.us/BOTcap.

Didn't work, but the beeps stopped. I noticed when unplugging the 18 pin connector on the amp with the radio still on, there was music for a second!

After swapping around some wires in the 18 pin connector, I managed to get it to work. Sound in all the speakers, bass etc, all back to normal. Still works when turning the radio on and off.

Now, the issue. If you turn the car off and back on, no sound comes from the speakers again (although you can hear speaker 'static' if you turn them up to the full volume). If you unplug the 18 pin connector and put it back in, it works again.

Obviously, I don't want to to that every time I turn the car on, any ideas for a potential fix?

Thanks,
James

Hi James,

eBay link doesn't go anywhere of any use!

Now I can't remember what's in that specific connector but the issue sounds like a control line issue, the bit that turns the amp on -- I'd start by looking at I-bus connector very carefully

Might give you a start

Ah, apologies, fixed the link: https://ebay.us/BOTcap

Interesting, it's an amp from a BMW, do you think it needs recoding to work with the L322? Been reading up on it, although have no idea how to recode it myself.

Just crazy it works if you unplug and plug it back in.

Thanks,
James

OK I thought that was the unit you were referring too.

I'd start looking at decoding I-Bus and seeing if all the kit can see each other, that black unit is the DSP -- and I believe that controls, via I-bus, turning on the amp.

Hope that helps Current: 2011 FFRR Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Great, thanks, I'll investigate.

Surely it can see it though, if I can edit the DSP settings in the head unit, and can hear speaker 'static' when you turn the volume up?

Thanks,
James

Yes, I agree, but is it then sending the correct signal to the amplifier (silver box) to turn on? !!

I believe it is the DSP that then tells the power amp to switch on you see Smile via the I-Bus Current: 2011 FFRR Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Ooooh, interesting. Thanks!

From what I can see from the RAVE manual vs the new Philips amp wiring diagrams the wiring is set up correctly for the 18 pin connector. Haven't checked the 15 pin one though, maybe that doesn't align.

I'll have a play tonight.

Not had any luck here. Bought this cable off eBay to see if I could recode the DSP using the details below, but couldn't get it to connect to Navcoder or NCS Expert. Not sure if anyone has ever had any luck connecting to an L322 with either of those? Followed loads of different instructions and just wouldn't connect, even though it would be recognised fine by the BMW INPA application.

Quote:
Insert the following parameters
Polling Timeout: inaktiv
Controller: mid_basis

1. Read the AMP module with NCSExpert in Manipulation mode
2. Edit the module settings and find the value : BEDIENELEMENTE
3. Change the value from "bordmonitor" to "mid_basis"
4. Save the new configuration file
5. Run SG_CODIEREN in NCS Expert

Think i'll try buy a replacement amp from the same car instead of a BMW one, surely that will work Neutral

You'll be needing I-Bus I think.........

Look for Resler interface:-

And NavCoder: -

Could I hell get this to work, ended up biting the bullet and shelling out for a replacement amp pulled from a Land Rover instead for about £160. Works a treat.
