FBH

erm... what exactly is it supposed to give me.

Just fitted a new battery (last weekend) and thanks for the info on here that saved me from blowing everything up. And it solved my wonky headlight wiper..!!

So set the Aux Heating last night, got in the car this morning and the fans were wurring away but it was not in the slightest bit warm. Turned the car on and the temp was still cold and the gauge was right at the bottom. Did it just waste it's energy for a while blowing air round for a bit.?

if the fbh is activated when then engine isn't running and its above 5 degrees c outside then it heats the coolant water only and not the interior, thats why you only get cold air inside.. .. ... - .- -.

Do you know that the FBH is firing up OK?

How much fuel is in the tank?

My fuel tank is full.

Thanks Scarey - you confirmed what I understand is what the FBH is supposed to do but when I started the car shouldn't the engine temp be higher than fully cold if the water was warm (or warming)? I only set it for 15 minutes before I left just to test I wouldn't have a flat battery like last time i tried (with a naff battery admittedly). Maybe it needs to be on a lot longer than that to have any effect..?

Stupid question... there is no other place to fuel up is there. It should take a feed from my main tank should'nt it.?

ps - Scarey - you did mean BELOW 5o C didn't you? Ash

ashley. i was led to believe that above 5 degrees c only the coolant will heat, below 5 degrees c the interior heats as well...you might have found in your case the engine heated up quicker once you got going...and yes the fbh gets its fuel from the main tank..

doctor dan the fbh man will confirm [or not] ... Wink ... - .- -.

Interestingly it was 6c tonight and I had to wait in the car for 15 mins so I thought I should try to see if the FBH would kick in and turned it on at the screen, at 10 mins It was still blowing cold and I reconed the 5c thing was true but at about 14 minuets it started to blow hot air.
So maybe Comports you should try for just a bit longer. 2008 MY Supercharged

Thx axle - I'll perhaps try that tomorrow morning. Was just cautious I did not flatten the battery this time. Ash

It heats the engine coolant first and then opens a valve to allow coolant to the heater matrix when it's up to a set temp.

The freelander one does the same but doesn't start the interior fan until the engine is up to temp, which is much cleverer.

I have found on slightly warmer days it doesn't heat the interior at all, just the engine coolant. Also worth noting is that the engine temp gauge is not in the loop for the pre-heater circuit, so it will be a few seconds until the gauge shows the extra warmth - but then the gauge reacts so slowly...

If you have an iBus reader/ Resler Interface you can run the free webasto diag SW, if you can figure it out!

so clearly having my AC on made no difference after all.. Rolling with laughter sorry Dan.!

Perhaps I'll just try it for longer next time. The temp gauge was on complete cold after starting the car and rose normally during my trip to the station carpark which led me to believe it had done nothing. When I can pick up enough courage (ie not on a school night where I NEED the car to get to work) I'll try it for longer.

Thanks All Ash
